Picked up a cheap, cheap Wii from a local game store that's going outta business. It was labeled as broken, and I was curious what kind of broken it was. Powering it on reveals this screen..

Looking it up, it seems like no such disc exists in public circulation, and it was only something from old Wii kiosks around late '06. What do I do with this thing?

Hello.:)

Maybe it can be a "special" Wii.
Is it maybe possible to see some Information from the Label please ?

Yes,this Disc exists "official" only as ISO/wbfs File.:P
Maybe you can "search" for it and make an Backup Disc and try to boot, maybe your Wii has more Surprises (Modchip ?).

Or maybe you also can open it and and take a Look.:)

Thank you.:)

The label's been covered with this foam brick with some stray adhesive.. It looks like this was stuck in a display kiosk at one point.

From what research I've done, it seems like this Wii will only boot a disc with the header "RAAE", but there isn't a disc I know of that has such a header, aside from the fabled startup disc... Is there any way to edit the header of an ISO before burning it?

Woah! Do you have the Startup Disc with that? If you do, then the lost media relic would FINALLY be found once and for all.

And if you do, do you know how to make Wii disc backups? Just wondering

Unfortunately, I don't have the disc with it. Nothing was in the drive when I got it. I do know how to make backups and have quite a few years of Wii modding experience under my belt, but.. I'm kinda at a brick wall with what to do with this thing. (Get it? Brick? 'Cause it's effectively like a banner brick, a.. Hush, I'm funny.)

Sure! It's in the very first sectors with no particular security, so you can use a generic hex editor...

...of course you'll need a chipped drive (or ODE), but probably not a big deal since it's likely to have an early drive that can be modded with a PIC...

...the problem will likely be in what you can run - it only has IOS4 (yes, a non-stub version) and maybe IOS9, and I'm not sure if it accepts standard updates from disc (ie without the disc having a program actively installing them by itself)

Good luck!

Huh... That is some real funky stuff.. I might have a Wiikey lying around here somewhere I can use..

has anyone found that specific disk?

Nobody in the public has. Its existence has indeed been confirmed, as it was used in kiosks to install a demo version of the NAND with a beta version of Wii Sports for the little kiosks that let you try the console out (Like what you'd see at Best Buy or Gamestop or something of the sort), but they must've all been sent back to Nintendo after their use ran out.

It definitely exists as wbfs/ISO File.:)
Unfortunately it is not really helpful, you can not boot it on an unchipped Wii and neither with Neogamma or other Loader Solution on an Softmodded Wii.

Maybe someday it will appear on EBay - Price 9000 $ :rofl2:

Are you sure you're not thinking of the Wii Backup disc? It's different from the startup disc. I haven't been able to find an ISO or WBFS of the latter.

Yes you are maybe right,I also have "searched" for it and found 3 different Discs (Backup/Repair/Update),but we can not get sure, even when you have a Wii like yours (with the Screen where you asked to insert the Disc).

A burned Disc is simply not working.:(

Can I count on you to find out what the hell's inside that wii?

It depends on how confident with a screwdriver I'm feeling.. Plus I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to Wii hardware, so I'd prefer just selling it to someone and having them explore it..
Maybe there's someone here on gbatemp that could help
