Hi there, I updated retroarch from 1.3.6 to 1.8.5 and now the UI take ages to load, same when I load a core or change an option. It was very fast before. Is it normal ?

I use an O3DS and CIA version.
Thanks.

I figured this out. There’s some sort of issue in the default .CFG files that causes the GUI to hang on load/content change. Delete the ones from your retroarch directory and start from scratch. Fixed the problem completely for me.

Yeah, I just tried the release version of 1.8.5 and ran into the same thing. There must have been a change recently, because it was working fine when I last tried it a few weeks ago. If I have time I'll take a look, but I don't know when that will be. I also saw a report of it happening on the Switch, so hopefully someone else will fix it before I do!

Hey guys, I just dusted out my n3DS thanks to the Coronavirus confinement and I decided to update everything and give retroarch a try, I'm very impressed by the gains in performance since the last time I tried emulation on the console (years ago), I've set up everything correctly but I have one last annoying quirk, the text in the XMB menu starts to draw just on the icons, so it is sometimes hard to read, does any of you know how to solve this issue?

Personally I just use forwarders because I find the xmb etc to be buggy on o3ds/n3ds.
I understand some want to use it that way since it lets you have infinite games. Not sure if there's a way to solve it.

That's not my style, I find it tedious and I have a lot of roms so it'd end up messy but thanks for the advice...
Yeah I sent my reply too early and edited it, but anyways hope someone else who uses the xmb too can help you out. I guess the stock gui isn't a possibility?

Well I could use it but I'd rather have the XMB, it's better, especially if I lend my device to someone who isn't familiar with retroarch...

Did they get rid of menu animations? I don't see it in settings anywhere now.

Also does anyone know if it's still advised not to us XMB, or are the crashing/performance issues smoothed out by now?

Did not work for me, slow as a snail on 2 O3DS and 1 N3DS. Reverted back to 1.3.6.

I did it on a 2DSXL last night too. Works fine after deleting all cfg files. I’ll look at my folder structure and see if I deleted anything else.

Ok thanks. Maybe you can share your cfg files ? The strange thing is that it happens on a fresh install. Can other apps may interfer wit RA such as theme managers ?

As far as I can tell, the startup delay is caused by all the new cores in 1.8.5 -- RA has to load all of the .info files, and 3DS SD access is slooooooooow.

I haven't tried it, but I would guess that it would start faster by removing the .cia/.3dsx/.info files for cores you don't use?

And speaking of slow SD card access, be sure to try CD Read Method: Asynchronous in pcsx_rearmed if you haven't already!
