so when i ran a scan on dell support assistant when it was scanning for new driver versions it showed an optional bios driver update so i clicked install and a few seconds in a weird slow drill sound played inside the laptop it sounded like a motor or something which for some reason made me turn the laptop off (i hope it hasn't corrupted the bios now) because of the sound, is it normal? why does it make that sound when i do that

Sounds like your fans were just revving up. This is normal from time to time, and with intense gaming/tasks (or regular if you have an older if you have a regular machine). If you turned off the machine before it told you too then there is a chance your bios is corrupt and I would reflash your bios of possible.

Alienware owner here.
During normal operations, you'll probably see 60-70 % fan speed, if you have an overclock, it'll almost guarantee 70%.
During a bios update however it'll go to 100% (most likely due to the parts that drive the fan speed being offline for the update).

You're lucky you didn't brick it though...

The updates can take 20 minutes to complete, or even longer at times.
Keep it plugged into the power and just go do something else. (Play on a switch or handheld for example :) )

Something that can happen is when a fan spins up to 100% (as will happen when a BIOS update takes place), the fan can wobble a bit and either scrape against the enclosure or the vibration itself can cause a noise.

Either way, it's always a bad idea to turn it off during an update.

Yeah it seems like they were just reaching max capacity at that point. I would really REALLY reflash your bios even if it is in working condition though. You could brick your system if the bios is corrupted (it may seem functional right now, but you never know)
