Hi all,

I am having the option to obtain a brand new japanese "New 3DS" for which I would want to change the region to Europe.
I have carefully read the "Region Changing" guide on 3ds.hacks and understood the importance of never accessing the eshop while the console system would still be japanese if I wish to be able to access the eshop once I performed the region change to europe.

Would the following process be appropriate to end up in a situation where my console would be equivalent to an out of the box european one ?

  1. Boot the new system and go through initial mandatory setup.
  2. Create a Mii so I can obtain a Friend Code required for CFW setup.
  3. Eventually update the console firmware for CFW setup.
  4. Apply the 3ds.hacks guide to get my console on CFW.
  5. Apply the 3ds.hacks guide region changing process.
  6. Perform a standard system transfer from my existing european New 3DS to this newly obtained region changed one and have it behave exactly like the source console.
Would somebody be able to validate if my thinking is correct ?

Even if you are not able to help me but took the time to read until the end of this post I would like to thank you for that B-)

Well, I would do the same, though this is correct, but which application would you use to swap your New 3DS region? Are you talking about changing the region of a game or the total console? Because many people choose to change the region of the game to a different region. If you want to get your European Nintendo 3DS games to the New (Japanese) 3DS, you will need to install them again, but you can get their saves from JK's Save Manager.

Correct @TurdPooCharger, virgin JP New 3DS (not LL).
  1. Absolutely avoid connecting that JPN n3DS online or WiFi. No ifs or buts.
  2. Install custom firmware using the ntrboot method. If you need a DS ntrboot compatible flashcart, check my signature for either the R4i Gold 3DS Plus (recommended) or R4iSDHC series (requires [o/n][2/3]DS[XL/LL][phat/lite] with working DS mode to reflash the cart).
  3. After boot9strap is in installed onto the n3DS, go straight to GodMode9 and backup the SysNAND for safety.
  4. Region change the 3DS firmware from JPN to EUR with CTRTransfer or CTRTransfer (Type D9).
    • The standard/normal CTRTransfer is easier to use. However, (Type D9) variety is slightly more conservative in that it keeps the console's original certs.db and ticket.db.
  5. Create a new user profile. Keep the WiFi turned off. Do not accept any agreements at this moment.
    • If the wireless LED indicator is on, just avoid creating any WiFi entries.
***

If you used (Type D9), you will be required to install the donor region's system tickets and the (4) TWL system title CIAs that were dumped. The HOME Menu titles will reappear after:
  • (L) + (R) shoulder camera applet → Nintendo 3DS Camera → Homebrew Launcher → FBI → install the TIK and CIA files → reboot.
***

6. Now it's okay to turn on WiFi. Update to the latest 11.13E firmware.
7. Access the adopted EUR Nintendo eShop. Once you go on, that n3DS will be locked in to EUR only Nintendo online services.

Thanks for your guidance.
Will make sure I never get the console connected to the internet by simply not setting up any wireless profile.

Crossing my fingers for the console to come with a firmware somewhere in between 3.0.0 and 11.3.0 so I can avoid the ntrboot method and use Soundhax method instead.

In theory it should come with firmware 8.1.0... assuming that is the case here are the steps I would follow :

  1. Boot the JP new system and go through initial mandatory setup making sure no wireless connection profile is setup.
  2. Install boot9strap (Soundhax)
  3. Nand backup.
  4. Region change the console with CTR Transfer.
  5. Finalize setup.
  6. Perform a system transfer using steps documented here by @sks316.
Voilà !

Seems like step 6. is not going to be possible according to feedback gathered in other topics...

I might just ditch the idea of doing a region change and make the best of what the a Japanese console has to offer since I would still be retaining my current EUR New 3ds...

System is arriving today ! B-)

Want to have a good laugh ?
System advertised as new arrived today but this system is clearly second hand, the screens have plenty of small scratches, process to get refunded has been initiated

Sorry for bumping an old thread but couldnt find the answer i was looking for.

I have a used japanese "new" 3ds that I region changed some time ago to US (as expected i cant access the US eshop), i now want to temporarily access the japanese eshop. So, can i change back the 3ds region to Japan and access the japanese eshop without problems??
