Hey everyone,

on one of my switch consoles i found out that the right joycon doesn't trigger the click sound and animation when attaching or detaching it. New joycons also don't pair automatically. However they are recognised as being attached. The left hand side works as intended. I can pair the right joycon manually, so it's not much of an issue but i would like to fix it nonetheless.
I've read several threads on this issue but they all point to damaged joycon rails and/or damaged joycon pins. On this console I have already checked the joycon rail and also swapped it with one from a fully working console.

Also all three tested joycons work fine on another console.

What i suspect is that it's damaged due to RCM jig usage. So my question is: Are there any components that will suffer from using an RCM jig frequently? Is that even possible when using a proper RCM jig? I've never used anything else. None of that tinfoil or bent paperclip rubbish. The jig bridges pin 1 and 10. Pin 10 is the flow control line as i've found out and the joycon will only send data to the console when that line is HIGH. So if somehow there's no signal on that line (i haven't checked yet), the joycon shouldn't be able to report as attached, right? Just to rule out any damage done by shorting it for RCM...

Could there be anything else that might be causing this?

Thanks :)

Most likely it's some software problem.
First suggestion would be to reboot the Switch once.
Sometimes some processes gets stuck and a reboot will solve it.
Other suggestion would be to completely detach/remove the joycon from the system and resync it again.

If the flat cable of the rail inside the switch would not be connected properly,
you would not be able to enter the RCM mode.

I guess it would be a bit risky to swap a joycon rail without turning off the console before. ;) so yes, i have tried turning it off and on again. ;) Even the battery was disconnected.

Oh and it's the same thing on Stock and Emunand if that matters.

I have the same issue, but on the left joycon. To this day I never figured out what the problem might be.
The joycon syncs, it charges, the switch recognises it's connected - but it won't click upon insertion.
I hope someone will figure this out :(

EDIT: I fogot to mention that the rail and flat connector cable have already been replaced - with no effect.

Yep. It certainly fixes the colour on the joycon animation but it doesn't fix the animation on the right joycon not triggering at all...

Same for me ... no change to the animation problem.
Is there someone here with technical knowledge about how this animation gets triggered?
What conditions need to be met for the animation to play?

DekuNukem did some reverse engineering on the joycons.
https://github.com/dekuNukem/Nintendo_Switch_Reverse_Engineering

It seems to be fairly simple bidirectional serial communication. He mentions that after the Joycon sends its MAC response to pair itself to the console, the animation is triggered.

My Joycons pair automatically again since i went to the system settings and unpaired all controllers. They communicate flawlessly with the system (vibration works, controls work, pairing works, they show up as docked). If this was a hardware issue and communication was affected, all this wouldn't work. So i guess it must be something software related that inhibits the animation/sound.
