I've recently got hold of an edev switch, which has been factory reset by the previous owner who wanted to use it as a retail switch but failed. As it stands it's just a nice collectable, as it can't do anything without devmenu installed or the correct/newer sdk. I've tried the 2016/2017 sdk, but whilst it detects the edev it can't initialize it or send anything to it as it's expecting firmware version 0.8.5 and i'm on 4.1.0. Nintendo target manager just sits the on unconnected and won't let me connect, although it is correctly identified and can be added as a target.

From reading the threads on here, it seems that people have managed to recover the devmenu from a formatted switch using testdisk. I've backed everything up, and tried this but testdisk shows "testdisk copy done 0 ok 0 failed" when trying to recover anything. All files just seem to be long strings of text, so i don't know which files to try recovering.

I've used hacdiskmount to check out my backup to recover stuff, but there doesn't seem to be much info about where things are stored so i'm not sure if devmenu would be under user or system etc.

I've spent the last two weeks reading the documentation from the sdk and threads on the internet, but i'm absolutely stumped now.

I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me a few pointers, or let me know if this is even possible!
