So I got a Wii like a year ago, and I haven't used it yet... it's just been sitting in a plastic bag in the corner of my room ever since I bought it lol.

Recently I have been wanting to get back into Nintendo games and stuff, so I have been playing my Switch a lot, but I want to learn F-Zero GX speedruns etc... and Mario Galaxy Speedruns.

So anyways, I modded my ex GF's Wii like 5-6 years ago, and I decided to mod the Wii that I have sitting in my room.

I have checked the firmware that the Wii is on, and it's 4.3U.

The latest info I can find on modding a Wii nowadays, is that it needs to be on 4.3...
Is this true?

Secondly, can someone point me to some info that will explain to me how to get the latest homebrew setup on my 4.3u Wii, or if I need to update or something, point me to that info also if you can.... I would appreciate it very much!

Also, since I want to start playing Gamecube games on my Wii, can someone ALSO point me to some info on how to start doing that?

TL:DR...

Got a Wii, that is on v 4.3U.
Can I get pointed in the direction of the latest info on how to get Homebrew setup, and start playing my Gamecube games on my Wii, off my USB External 1TB HDD?

Thanks in advance!!!

P.S - I already have my SD card formatted and ready to start softmodding.

Oh! I almost forgot!!!!

I was reading a few minutes ago that you can use your PS4 Dualshock 4 controller to play gamecube games on your Wii if its softmodded.

Can someone explain to me how that works? Or just point me in the direction so I can start doing it myself?

Apparently the PS4 controller doesn't work for any Wii games, only for Gamecube games. So I want to use my PS4 controller until I can buy a Gamecube controller. I also have a wireless Xbox 360 controller and a Switch Pro controller, and joycons, if anyone knows how to get nay of THOSE working for Gamecube games on the Wii...

Thanks again! ;]

Thanks so much! But how exactly does this work? Is this ALL I need and then I am done? Or what? I was reading a guide before and it said I had to put Letterbomb on my SD Card... I guess I don't have to now? Is that info old or something? Do I NOT need an SD Card to softmod a wii anymore?

I also don't know which wire to cut on the Letterbomb site xD

enter your mac adress and cut the red wire. go to your message board and load the letter if freezing, restart process but cut the bblue wire. you need to copy file to your sd.

Thank you SO much! You have any ideas about any of the other info I asked about? Either running gamecube games off an External USH 1 TB HDD? Or any ideas about using other controllers on the Wii to play GameCube Games? I was reading earlier that if you have your Wii Softmodded that you can use a PS4 Dualshock 4 controller to play Gamecube games on your Wii but it didn't explain how it's done.

P.S - I would like to play N64 games also. Not just GameCube.

P.P.S - Also I just wondered, is there a way to auto deny system updates past 4.3U? Or is 4.3U the latest?

wiishop is closed do you think you can installed virtual console with an other way ? :D
Yes I do actually xD

I am having a problem though. I typed in my Wii MAC Address and I clicked Cut the Red Wire. The Letterbomb.zip downloaded onto my PC. I went into the Message Board on my Wii, but the Message Board is blank...

Not sure what I am doing wrong.

I made sure I am connected to my Wifi... so idk..

CUT BLUE WIRE NOW AND REPLACE ALL FILE ON YOUR SD. you need to extract the content of archive to your sd

The Wii doesn't have automatic updates in the first place (contrary to the right they nominally reserved to implement in 3.4), there's a Priiloader patch (or "hack" as it calls them) to block them but no reason to do that

4.3 is indeed the newest Wii Menu - 4.3 refers only to that piece of software, not IOSes or other things (indeed there were three updates all including a 4.3 Wii Menu, the last of them in 2013)

If you want an overall guide including CIOS and have a windows PC, consider using XFlak's Modmii

Okay, will do that in a minute, I didn't know I still needed my SD card... I asked you earlier but you didn't say anything xD

P.S - I formatted my SD card like 20 minutes ago. So my SD Card is 100% Completely empty.

Okay I am at the hackmii installer v1.2 menu on my Wii.

Do I need to also install BootMii as boot2? or install BootMii as IOS? Or uninstall BootMii as IOS? OR can I ignore all the BootMii MENU?

P.S- Sorry for replying with all that stuff to you just now, I didn't realize I clicked reply to YOUR post and not the other guy/girl lol. that was my mistake.

Your choice, if you have one of those early Wiis that supports bootmii as boot2 I would not pass the opportunity and install it (then make a nand backup) - you then get the second best (after an external programmer) brick recovery method (though not the one you would likely use "day to day" - also install Priiloader for that when you get the opportunity)

bootmii as boot 2 is best for preventing brick, after you can make a bootmii nand backup on bootmii menu.
So you are saying,. I NEED to install BootMii? I should not ignore this menu and JUST install HBM?

Also, in the SAME menu there is an option for "Prepare a SD Card"... should I select this option before doing anything else first????

install bootmii as boot 2 and hbc, you can install bootmii as ios for lauching bootmii menu from homebrew channel.

I know for sure that you can use a DS4 by turning Native Control off in Nintendont, launching the game, plugging it into the other USB port, then pressing the center button twice. I haven't tested this myself, nor do I know how to use wireless controllers, but I'm pretty sure you need an adapter for those.

Hello.:)

Please use an small and non SDHC/SDXC SD Card and no microSD Card with Adapter for the Letterbomb Exploit/Hackmii Installer !!
Thank you.:)

Okay I am sorry guys/girls... to both of you, but I am confused....

1. How do I know if I CAN INSTALL BootMii as boot2 ON my Wii? How do I know if my Wii is capable? I dont want to hit the install button if my Wii isn't capable and then it messes something up...
2. Do I need to select "Prepare a SD Card" first before doing anything else in the HackMii installer v1.2 ?
3. After I figure "1" and "2" out, which order do I select "Prepare a SD Card"/"Install BootMii as boot2"/"Install HBC"???
4. How exactly do I go about creating a NAND Backup on my Wii? and how much space do I need on my SD Card to do so?
5. Last and finally... what is BootMii? And is installing BootMii as boot2, then creating a NAND Backup... basically the same as having an EmuNAND on my 3ds/Switch?

P.S - Sorry for all the questions, I just want to understand, and I don't want to break anything lol
