We all know sd files exists, it's just disappointing that it's so slow.

mmc was the only reason. But you seem sure, so I asked you to prove it.

AFAIK sx os only has file based because they got it when atmosphere supported it. You seem to want to believe that everyone is against file based emunand, like it makes you feel better because you are using something that is not "proper". It wouldn't have been added to atmosphere if everyone was against it, like some kind of plucky underdog that has to fight to survive.
Sigh... I give up like you are twisting my words around complete full 360 dude. The Sd file was the first emunand sxos had is what im trying to tell you it was the only emunand option before ppl complained about not having a hidden partition... At the time ppl didn't like the idea b/c it wasn't hidden like a normal emunand would be. "It makes me feel better to think ppl hate it?" Then why the hell am I using it then? Can a mod kindly aid my point to an old thread from last year please. Atmosphere never had emunand when the sxos had the SD file Emu..... Atmo is just now trying to get the same support, what are you talking about man? They are a year behind on this.

I'm not twisting your words. SX OS emunand was on mmc first, not sd. I've given you proof from the faq.

Here is another thread.

https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-does-sx-os-emunand-work.518936/

Here's what I found out so far:

- boot0 is unmodified
- boot1 is modified with EMUNAND0 tacked at the end (some unused area)

- GPT is UNMODIFIED
- All partition locations / sizes are UNMODIFIED
- Everything is unmodified except for the USER partition, in which a few new files have been created (called NAND01.bin, NAND02.bin and so on)

The modified boot1 and storing files in the user partition is what everyone complained about.

If the boot1 was not modified and the files were stored on sd then everyone would be happy (except it would probably be slower, but you think that is fine).

atmosphere added sd file based emunand before sx os, but they recommend sd partition based because it's faster and more reliable (sd card drivers in the switch seem to cause corruption, not just for exfat but less often in fat32 as well)

Later on sx os incorporated atmosphere emunand, so it still has the option to store in files stored in the mmc but also has the sd files and sd partition options. Each has advantages and disadvantages. But the only one that isn't really proper emunand is storing in the mmc, because (and for no other reason than) it modifies the mmc.

Do you finally understand?

So all this time you were barking about emunand supporting the console before an actual Sd card? Ok.. "clap" still Emunand never existed for Atmo when sxos had SD card support idk where you are pulling that info out b/c Atmo just got emu this year. https://team-xecuter.com/sx-os-v2-3-beta-announcement/

That is what you get when you ignore reading what people say and just want to win.

But yes, that is the point I've repeatedly tried to make to you. Nobody cares whether it's stored in a partition or as a file, it's not really emunand if it's stored on your nand.

Everybody loves file based sd emunand, you're using what everyone wants to use (if only it wasn't slow and unreliable).

Well atleast we all know how you spend your Saturdays. You made a small point of something outdated good for you. But then you went on and fabricating saying Atmo had Sd emu support before sxos even tho it never existed for them they were still developing emunand all of last year.
I was referring to SD file support came before SD hidden partition not mmc. Why would anyone put emunand on mmc nowadays? I read, we were just arguing over 2 different things
Oh well Have fun restoring your data through 3rd party programs via partition. I'll take a couple of seconds of boot time over complicated recovery tasks any day.

Don't be so butt hurt. While I was wrong about atmosphere sd files being first, it doesn't invalidate my point that sd files emunand is ONLY discouraged because of the load times.

You aren't fighting the system for using it.

How often are your sd files emunand corrupting that the convenience of restoring even figures into your evaluation? I've never restored.

Your point is opinonized b/c many ppl are still using SD file Emunand even if its "alittle" slow on boot time thats the only small fact from your argument everything else just a personal preference. Like your are tying to convince me its terrible without even actually using it yourself when I'm personally using it now and see nothing wrong with it. If you can wait 10-20mins to download a game a 7 sec boot time isn't going to kill you which is why this whole arguments is so petty to even debate on. Its literally the same crap that atmo users keep comparing how nsp's are more faster than xci yet ppl are still using it for different reasons. Its not about just restoring SD card for convenience its also easy to upgrade to a newer SD card for more storage. Theres multiple reasons why its suitable for ppl, speed is just a small sacrifice that comes with it.

Im not pulling this out of my ass or from other ppl on here I'm telling you out of legitimate experience. Im far from being butt hurt the argument was solely about SD emunand you kinda fell off the topic talking about "Console Emunand"

What legal issue is there for them banning you if they detect you are using a modified system? They seem to be willing to do that generally.

I thought file based emunand was discouraged because it was really slow.

scanning peoples personal files on sd cards for whatever reason is highly illegal. So I would say many .

@Enfortel I don't totally understand what you are asking. Your sysNand is not stored on your sdcard. It's stored on the systems internal memory.

Also emutool is a pretty cool tool that can do some of the magic of restoration depending on what your back up is.
