I joined since a lot of discussion regarding CFW for consoles seems to be happening here, and I recently got a Nintendo Switch.
Apart from that, I like Video Games, Technology & Linux as well as other cultures (particularly either east-asian or eastern european).
Currently live in the UK.
Censorship is awful.

PS: How is requiring new members to post 5 messages combatting spam, exactly?

iirc it was introduced when bots would mass-PM people upon joining. It's a lot less visible, annoys a lot more people directly, and requires somebody to report it before anything can be done. It also stops them from creating 100 threads in every forum before being spotted. Five messages isn't much to ask from a legitimate user, especially when posts here count. You're only four away from being able to access most of the site's utility.

You'd be surprised. We still get occasional bots posting on the forums advertising their fake passport sales or the keto diet lol

And idk about others but I have this forum watched so I can at least answer questions if people ask them in their intro posts.

Uh

Video game is either Dark Souls 3, or NieR: Automata. I am not sure which one yet, and it's been nearly 2 years...

Piece of Tech was probably my PSP. Don't have it anymore, but that thing was really fun. Lot's of normal games, you could emulate Game Boy Advance and there was some actually useful homebrew for it.
Linux (or any Free OS), I apreciate that at the end of the day it's computing in my interest. It's only running what I want it to run, and not doing any shit in the background that goes against my interest (DRM, Telemetry etc). I also find it a lot easier to work with than Windows. Android ADB just works without a gazillion different drivers for each phone/ROM version, and using different GPUs together is a lot less of a pain (try using a current AMD card and an older AMD card in the same system unter windows).
I didn't start down this rabbit hole for any 'real' benefit though, I just wanted stuff to look nice, and Linux (while being difficult to set up sometimes) can look incredibly beautiful.

As for culture, not sure I understand the question. I like traditional architecture in Taiwan/China/Japan etc. as well as whatever you would describe Hong Kong, especially the places with appartment complexes. You know, where you look up and only have a limited view of the sky? My ideal place would be a huge city with lots of skyscrapers and lights, but little comfy noodle shops or something in back alleys.
Regarding eastern europe, one of my parents comes from a slavic country and I really like it compared to western countries I have lived in, despite being objectively worse off in economy or 'cultural relevance'. It also has something to do with how I view western society though I think. The mentality between western and eastern europe is just very different.

Not sure that made a lot of sense, but it's half-past-two in the morning so that's the best I am gonna be able to type I think

Linux is great. I'm just starting the road to learning Unix myself. I really lucked out because my academic institution has a supercluster and will grant you access to a virtually unlimited number of back end nodes. As you said, parallel processing is beautiful :3

I completely understand and agree with you about the cityscapes! My two favorite cities in the world are Shanghai and Seoul. Nothing like grabbing a beer by the water, drinking in the skyline :-)

I actually didn't play a whole lot of games as a kid so I didn't have super high hopes to find something relatable on those. Dark souls seems to be a pretty popular one though and I've been wanting to play it for a while.

As for Linux/Unix-like OSes, I am afraid the most powerful thing I have access to right now is an old thinkpad. I had a server at a friend's house but it died, and I sold my desktop. I may replace my broken server with 10 raspberry pis and see how well that setup would scale scale if I just keep adding more pis...
I do like Linux though. It's not the easiest thing to get working at times, but the things you can do to are great. I am afraid I never actually went into any computer area professionally or academically thus far, so my greatest achievements are writing shitty shell scripts to automate various things or getting Virtual Machines with GPU-Passthrough to work.

And god I wish I could visit cities like Shanghai and Seoul. Or even move there...
I think if I had a choice of where to live, anywhere, I'd probably pick Hong Kong, Taipei or Tokyo. Mainland china has a lot of really awesome looking cities, I am not sure living in the mainland would be for me.

Speaking of video games and nice cities, if you like games vaguely similar to GTA, I really liked "Sleeping Dogs". The entire game was just ＡＥＳＴＨＥＴＩＣ as heck

Interestingly your broken server solution is the exact same one as my broken life solution. Maybe you'll have more luck. No worries on the shitty shell scripts, I promise you my shell scripts are shittier.

Hong Kong sounds like an amazing place to live (when there isn't a political movement happening). I think I just have a thing for waterside cities though. Like, raw fresh seafood is my fetish.
