Hey!

I'm looking to install CFW in order to run "backup" games. That's it. Don't need to play online, ever. Don't need to mod or play homebrew.

I've done some research, but I'm stuck on the software setup bit. A lot of contradicting information ;)

I have purchased a Trinket M0, as I want to boot the switch without using a PC/android. I feel fairly confident in the soldering, but I'm completely lost on how to setup the software. Got some questions, if anybody could clarify some stuff for me, I'd be really grateful :)

1. Do I install the CFW on the SD card of the nintendo switch, same setup as if I'd boot the CFW via PC/Android?
2. Will Kosmos work to install "backups", what files are missing? Heard something about some patches that are required.
3. What do I install on the Trinket? Seen some sources saying that I need to install the CFW/Payload on the Trinket and not the switch, while others say the trinket fetch all files from the nintendo switch SD card.

Thanks a lot!
Cheers

Ok let's try this

1. Yes as the cfw gets files it needs from the sd card

2. Kosmos is atmosphere package and usually contains the patches needed in it.

3. All depends how you set up your trinket. Can have the payload on it, can get it from the sd card all depends. I would suggest getting the payload from the sd card as it would be easier to switch when it needs updating

I've read both previously, but can't understand the second one.

Which CFW will that run? Do I configure the switch in any way before doing that on the Trinket, or will that install the CFW for me?

It has hakate built in but will ignore it and run whatever payload you want as long as you name it "payload.bin" and place it in the root of the SD card

EDIT: Just to clear it up but the modchip will deal with pushing a payload at boot but after that everything is the same as anyone else trying to run CFW.

Ok, excellent!

But I do a usual installation of my CFW of choice on the Switch beforehand, then proceed to install all software required on the Trinket, then lastly install the trinket on the Switch?

Cheers

You don't install CFW, it all runs from the SD card and patches stuff in memory, flash the trinket with the software in that thread i linked then prepare a SD card with whatever CFW you want using whatever guide you want, the only thing different is the payload you will use needs to be renamed to payload.bin and placed in the SD card.

once the chip is installed you should be placed in RCM and the chip will push the payload all by you just pressing the power button.
its seamless and just real nice.

So I don't even need to short the pins where the joycon attaches? :O

Sounds good and smooth!

I think you should try my easier set up, which are simply autorcm+plus dongle(with hekate payload). It is almost like the "modchip coldboot cfw" which you want. All I have to do is turn on dongle, plug it into switch and instant cfw:lol: but if you are confident in soldering then good luck with your permanent cfw:lol:

Pretty confident with my soldering; done a lot of micro fpv setups with remote-control airplanes :)
The software bit is the part I'm worried about.. ;)

The trinket simply replaces the pc/phone/dongle to push the payload. You install it and forget it. After that you can perfect your SD setup with any CFW you want.

Technically you are shorting the pins but from the inside and only on pressing the power button, I can't solder so asked a friend to install the chip for me so can't help on that end beside pointing to mattys thread.

I have save games on Breath of the wild, mariokart and Lets go pikachu that I don't want to lose.
Is it possible to make a backup of these save games, that I can later install on the same switch AFTER REMOVING CFW? (Incase I want to recover these games and play online again).

Will this recover my Switch to be 100% (99%) safe for online use, AND recover my game saves from before CFW installation?

"1. you have a clean untouched switch
2. you put it in airplane mode/remove any wifi connection
3. you inject hekate and do a nand backup
4. you go in cfw, but never ever go online again
5. once you are done and want to be legit again you boot into hekate and restore your nand"

Mine can be, checked. Both serial # and firmware are hackable.

Will my game saves be deleted on installation of emunand? If I wish to remove emunand and all cfw traces later on, can the above steps I posted be used to restore both a clean NAND AND my game saves?

Cheers

Hekate is a bootloader not homebrew that requires CFW to run. It runs before the sysnand boots up. Still clean.

Alright!
And will that backup restore my game-saves if I revert to it by following the "Restore nand" section?

Nope. You need CFW and homebrew for that

So there is no way to revert to a clean switch again while retaining my current gamesaves? :/
I thought a NAND dump included game saves, and that it could be reverted without a CFW (just using Hekate).

EDIT:
"This will reset all of your saves, games, system version and other system settings back to a point when you made the the nand backup"

Doesn't this mean the NAND backup includes save-game backup?

I'm not talking about recovering save games post-cfw, just my save-games from clean switch (pre-cfw).
