So a family friend who 2DS I hacked, just sent me his console and I assumed he updated the console and he got the error that required Luma3DS 8 to fix back in august 2018. I installed latest luma and the console boots but Whenever I start a game it crashes. With "An exception Ocurred" an I have to restart.

Does he have any cheats for games or mods/plugins
No, I used magnethax to install boot9strap, I updated Luma and boot9strap but whenever I open a game 90% of the the console crashes. They guy said they didn'dt use the console for while and when they went to use it it had an error message.

try:
1. disable everything on the luma9 config screen.

or
2. Turn off your WIFI - if it fixes the problem, you have a bad wifi card
if you have a latter model of the 2ds, then it has an embedded atheros sht chip -
(otherwise you can replace it)

3. if it doesn't go away,
apply ctrnand 11.5(your region) with d9 instead of gm9

format after the transfer.

Did step 1 and nothing changed, step 2 instead of getting an error message I get black screen, step 3 I need a tutorial.

  1. First, try the battery trick.
  2. If that doesn't work, try using the Luma3DS v9.1 (sdmc:/boot.firm).
3. If standard CTRTransfer doesn't work, try CTRTransfer (Type D9).
  • Don't use the older Decrypt9WIP CTRTransfer because it fails to backup and restore console unique NAND files.
  • Ensure that the SD card has its contented copied to computer, reformatted in FAT32 + 32 Kb cluster, and tested with H2testw before using (Type D9).
  • Backup the SysNAND *.bin image for extra safety. See the script's instructions.
***

Edit - @Robika, is the 2DS in question actually softbricked? Are you able to boot to HOME Menu?

Games that fail to launch would not typically use CTRTransfer to fix them.

Did you test whether or not your reformatted and (emptied out) card is fake or dying with H2testw?

Also, reinstalling a game erases the save.

I did a test nd it said no errors, the save data is not my problem since they are asking for a favor and making me hurry, when I don't have that much time. Free games come with a price. I would dedicate more time to this if it was my 2ds.

Teach your family friend some basic custom firmware lessons like (1) how to use Checkpoint or JKSM save manager and (2) backing up & restoring SysNAND in case of 3DS firmware softbrick. Have them read the [3ds.hacks.guide] (Spanish version).

I have a feeling this person lacks knowledge about 3DS homebrew stuff, will eventually mess up again, and bring back that 2DS with expectation that you'll keep fixing for him or her.
