Hi!
I recently got a pretty beat up hackable non-banned Switch and I would like to change its screen which is full of scratches.
Say I get a replacement screen from a dead Switch, can I just take the front out and swap with the other screen?

I mean the digitizer If I recall is separate from the screen but I would advise to take it apart entirely due to the ribbon cable for the digitizer being connected to the motherboard plus heating it up with the screen attached will cause yellowing to the screen that is unrepairable

You can swap the digitizer but you'll have to open to the back of the system to unplug it from the pcb the games go in. You can also buy cheap new digitizers, no need to take one from another switch.

I would also like to add make sure you buy a glass screen protector. The glass digitizer replacements for Nintendo switch are still the plastic and not really glass like they claim to be. I actually really like the Blackweb brand from Walmart being it has a placement tool that makes installing the screen protector effortless

Take out ever screw that is on the switch from the back, the top and bottom. On the joycon rains, remove only the center 3rd screw (there are 5 in a row on each joycon rail).

That back plastic comes off. Then unscrew/remove the silver aluminum-ish cover. At the "top left" is a ribbon cable for the digitizer. Flap the hinge open to unseat the cable. Then it slides out easily from the front.

Be sure to get the iFixIt heating "mat/tube" or the LCD will not detach from the digitizer and removing the digitizer will crack the LCD. There are youtube videos explaining it in detail.

Are there any DIY or cheaper options as far as getting the adhesive hot to remove the digitizer?

I was asking about something like the ifixit iopener, I'd prefer not to destroy my screen
The suggestions above should work, as long as you are careful. The ifixit tool is $30. If you destroy the screen by not using it, then you get to spend $30 for the toolkit and +$20 for a replacement screen. Just buy the proper tools and replace the screen. You can resell the kit as "open box" once you are done using it.
