It may just be your SD card. I've used two, one works like a charm, the other only boots half the time and when it does it's awfully slow. In L4T 1.2 bylaws made a change that increased SD card compatibility but it slowed everyone else, so he reverted it in 1.3. You could try grabbing the 1.2 update zip from his thread and copying its files to the fat32 partition of your SD (overwriting the ones already there). Let me know if you try that and whether or not it works, if it does I might start posting a 1.2 image alongside my normal one.

So, I spent a little above a few hours, and have got RetroArch to work just fine with one exception. Protip: make sure that, whatever you do, you put the CPU in performance mode on Ubuntu. Otherwise, you aren't getting the performance horsepower needed to drive performance in these emulators. For Reicast, the frames might not dip as much, though some games simply won't perform how you might expect. (the Training Stage in CvS2 is the most demanding stage in the game for some reason)

The only exception to RetroArch having everything working fine is the lack of PS1 emulation. I don't know what emulator Beetle PSX is based off of, but it sure is insistent upon using a specific BIOS file that, even when extracted to the right folder, it still won't load the game. Are .PBP files supported, or does it just want uncompressed .ISOs? Is there a reason why so many of the better cores are missing for RetroArch? I noticed that when you look at the available cores for the Linux build of RetroArch, it sure seems like a lot of the cores that are on PC are missing like PicoDrive, PCSX-ReARMed, and some builds of MAME that work with games that don't work with FBA? I don't know why the choice of cores is so limited. Is it because of emudrama with some of the standalone versions of emulators getting used for other projects like PCSX-ReARMed being used in the PS Classic?

Also, is there a way to play Atomiswave/NAOMI on Reicast by any chance? I have the games and other necessary components to run everything, but it's not on the list of available games. Is it simply not supported in this standalone version of the emulator?

so i did like you said and replaced the sd files with 1.2. it still fails for me after lauching l4t. the fans will kick in for a brief moment, and then black screen for a bit, and then its back in rcm mode. and about my sd card. what do you mean? its the stock sd that comes with the switch. i want to try my 200gb msd, but my emunand would be deleted.

I could be wrong but I believe the reason those cores are missing is because they don't have arm64 builds. I haven't tried PSX it emulation yet but I'll give it a try soon.

The Switch doesn't come with an SD card.... I work at a popular retailer (U.S.), and I've never seen an official bundle include an SD card. I suppose it's possible you're from another (non-U.S.) region. I wouldn't know about those.

@Silent_Gunner
I was also unable to get the PSX beetle core working.

The good news is, I was able to get PCSXR running standalone and it seems to run great! You will still need BIOS, I used scp1001.bin myself and had no problems.

Anyway, everyone can expect PCSXR and moonlight in the next image.

OK, I got PCSX-R standalone working fine, but WTF is up with this emulator's definition of full screen? Last I checked, full screen didn't mean: the picture + the taskbar!

Also, I had controller issues with this emulator for some random reason. I deleted the dinput.cfg file and tried again, but we'll see what happens from here on out. It's running great with SOTN so far without yours truly having changing too many settings outside of the resolution of the not-fullscreen mode.

EDIT: So, I've given it a runthrough, and even without changing much of anything, the emulator's kicking SOTN's ass with the explosions for when you kill the Wargs at the beginning of the game, and after upping some settings and not experiencing much slowdown until then entering a room with a lot of enemies in it and having the framerate tank (but thankfully not crash the emulator to where I couldn't get to the save point before the first boss fight with Gaibon and Slogra, people who've played the game should know what I'm talking about, and if you haven't played SOTN yet, I feel sorry for you), I don't know how far one would get in terms of this version of the emulator running well. For reference's sake, I tried Tekken 3, and immediately upon loading a fight, the game's framerate was going so slow that I paused the game and exited immediately. It was that bad. And that was before I upped the settings to do another runthrough with SOTN just now.

And yet, Soul Calibur 1 on Reicast runs relatively fine. I kind of wish the performance was better than what my ODroid XU4 could get, but if I had to play some DC on L4T-Ubuntu at this very moment, I'd use Reicast.

Feel free to share your configs of Lakka.

Most vary depending on the games, but in general, using PAL over NTSC, threaded video, and in some cases disabling VSYNC helps. Changing the Dolphin CPU clock setting helps very much in many cases but these all change depending on which game your playing.

Oh I meant to ask, is Mupen next in this Retroarch any different to the Lakka version? Most N64 seem to work a little better in Lakka,
however I notice Yoshi's Story 64 works fine on Ubuntu, in Lakka running around/moving forward causes your game to drop from 60-20fps.
Also how to get joy cons working in the main desktop with mouse pointer movement? Pro controller syncs and works fine. Is their a way to have them running from when you boot Ubuntu also? Or once I can actually get them working will they have to be removed from the switch every time to sync them to bluetooth. According to bluetooth they end up connected yet I am able to do absolutely nothing with them ;P.

Not sure, I use the stable version of retroarch as the test version wasn't working last I tried. In the Bluetooth menu remove the joycons then repair them so that the LEDs are both blinking, then press l and r and they'll both have the player one light on. Careful not the press L3 accidentally as that toggles mouse control. There's no way to auto pair at boot. occasionally one will stay paired though

NOOBS4 is now released! Included this time is PCSXR w/ joycons and fullscreen configured (you will need to provide your own BIOS file) as well as moonlight (use the "moonlight pair" and "moonlight stream" commands from Terminal). Additionally I added a centralized roms folder in the home folder and configured all emus to look there by default. The torrent link for the compressed rar is up, the Google Drive download link will be up when it finishes uploading in about 30 min.

I was unable to test moonlight as I don't have a PC with an NVIDIA graphics card, so if anybody who does wants to test it for me and report back if it works or not it would be appreciated. As always let me know of any general issues or questions you have and of any software you want added in a future image.

What is the difference between the torrent link NOOBS and the NOOBS in the guide? Should I get both or just use the one from the torrent link? Because the second is 18 GBs and idk which to use.

The torrent and the Google Drive links both point to the same file and it's only 6 GB.
The torrent file itself is much smaller but you just open it in whatever client you use (qbittorrent etc) and it downloads the 6GB file.

Either way once you have the file, you extract it and that's the one you flash to your SD card.

I'm talking about this file, which is step 2 or something of the guide:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Bkd-G2-HWR9CS3HxkNbZbug7tZXbrlU3/view?usp=sharing
it says to download NOOBS and this is the link, but what I mean is should I use this file or the file on the two links above? (the torrent and the drive link)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Rough Guide
What You'll Need:
  • Flash drive
  • microSD card (recommended size 32GB or higher)
  • Computer with internet connection, SD card slot, and USB ports
1. Download NOOBS: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Bkd-G2-HWR9CS3HxkNbZbug7tZXbrlU3/view?usp=sharing
2. Download balenaEtcher: https://www.balena.io/etcher/
3. Download GParted Live: https://sourceforge.net/projects/gp...ve-1.0.0-1-amd64.iso/download?use_mirror=iweb
4. Copy all the files off of your SD Card to a safe location on your computer.
Step 1

2 questions rq, how do i play with wired or wireless joycons on dolphin (or any emulator?) ontop of that, is there a way i can use my joycons as a mouse basically? like move the mouse cursor around with the joystick or something so i dont have to constantly whip out a keyboard and mouse. also, is there a way to ftp my files or move them (by putting sd card in pc) from the sd card to ubuntu?

@Gameboyandwatch ah I see what you mean about the links, I forgot to remove that one, thanks for pointing it out! I added steps to the guide to get your joycons set up as a controller and mouse! As for ftp, just check the switch IP address either in settings or typing "hostname -I" in terminal and then on your PC use any FTP client you want and connect to that IP on port 22
