sometimes yes, sometimes no. A game can be repackaged for a lower firmware, but sometimes it requires something from a higher firmware and will crash the switch if you try it. It's more or less random whether a game can successfully get a lower firmware.

Uhh.. Ok . So..I need test the backups ... Thanks.

Another question:

Is it safe to go up to 7.0.0 or higher? or do I stay in 6.1.0?

Your best bet would be to update to 7.0 or 8.0 using choidujourNX. For me 8.0.1 works but only with ReinNX. I think atmosphere is on 8.0.0.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

You can play games as sig patches have been updated but REINX on 8.0.1 wont be as stable as 7.0.1

yes if you either patch during the install or repatch the nsp to patch the firmware requirement check. SX OS and ATMOS work on 8.x.s btw. to get your keys on 7.0 or higher you need the Lockpick_RCM payload not the homebrew nro

I have keys for 6.2 - do I need to get keys again if I update to higher firmware? Patch during install (how) and repatch (how-what) ....you have to reinstall NSP games if updating firmware....can't just use the SD card as is from other firmware? I'm on 6.20 - 0.8.5 AMS and would like to go to highest "stable' CFW version and not lose hbg...or anything else/ I read that 7.0 and 0.8.9 AMS is best (right now-?). Just to much half truths out there to be sure when and how to update.

U don't need delete ur games. Just Keep the folder "NINTENDO" in the SD Card. and, only fallow the corresponding update.

Examplae SD Folders/Files:

ReiNX> bla bla l
or ] ---- > ur favorite cfw
Atmosphere> bla bla l
switch> (Here Softwares) ChoiDujourNX, Goldleaf, Tinfoil 1.55 , etc
Update> Firmware 7.0.1 > Corresponding Files for Update
NINTENDO> (Ur Intalled Games) < you don't lose them > -NOT DELETED THIS FOLDER-

Done.

So after updating I can basically just use my same SD Memory card with Nintendo (folder) containing all my games....along with all other folders for Apps and Homebrew. Only things need to change is my update folders for higher firmware/Payloader. I will have all access to everything and lose no advantages I had with 6.2.0 ..... more advantages of using 7.0.0 or 8.0.1 ????? CFW

* I understand all this above - Just need to know if I should update to 7.0 or 8.0.0 - 8.0.1 (which version of 8.X.X if that better), and will I lose anything that 6.2.0 gave me (all NSP work)??
Most downloads examples of 8.0 do have Sigpatches included....

I think atmosphere is on 8.0.0.
Uhh... no. Atmosphere works fine on 8.0.1, please stop spreading misinformation

Update Atmosphere, update signature patches, update the payloads, update all your homebrew apps and everything will work as it did before

Please explain why this is recommended? Im on 8.0.1 and both SX and Atmos are working fine for me doing all things i need them to do.
Because the developers say to stay on the lower 7.0.1 probably because 8.0.1 is so new may not be bombproof. 7.0.1 is just more stable as its been tested more. 8.0.1 is most likely fine but it may have issues that havent been worked out yet.

7.0.1 is more stable in terms of homebrew and general CFW usage, there are less bugs and issues. Also 8.0.1 didn't introduce any new keys, therefore there isn't any software that specifically needs it(When installing anything just use the ignore firmware option and you'l be fine). Because of this every dev recoomends you stay on 7.0.1, at least until homebrew is more compatible and more stable on 8.0.1

Very easy to "spread misinformation", there is so much going on...changing daily (or hourly)....making it EASY to not be up to date.
That's why I'm so cautious - and haven't updated from 6.2.0 yet.*Not that it can't be undone.... And I'm still installing games with 7.01 requirement with "ignore required firmware.

I already messed up a 256GB SD Card a while back (thankfully had a backup) when I went upside down on trying to update my Atmosphere.
That was a 3+ hour mistake to fix with back up (additional time looking for mistake) - Formatting and reinstall only alternative.

The way my Atmosphere boots up - I get a menu with boot options instead of Atmosphere Splash Screen.
I like having that choice in case I need "options" *But is that "Atmosphere" or Fusee Gelee, Hekate or what? It's what I've used for last couple months. I See 6.2.0 (AMS 0.8.5)

Just so you know, while you're on 6.2, not EVERY game/update/DLC will run by using the ignore firmware function. That is because the more recent content REQUIRES the new keys that 7.0.1 introduced

If you're getting a menu when you run your payload then you're most likely running Hekate

Yea, I noticed awhile ago that it said Hekate at the top of screen. Yes - Some games not available with my 6.2 - tho most are as of yet except for newest. I "do" get games that require 7.0.1 or whatever to play....maybe they "some" are patched to allow lower firmware (I don't know) - but at time of install with Goldleaf it does say "key" 7.0 - 7.01 something like that. Now I've updated to Mario Odyssey v1.3 a couple weeks ago and got a black screen (only icons top left bottom right) requiring DevMenu to remove the update and "reset" required firmware (or not being able to play because of update nag)....ran into the same situation today with Zelda BOTW most resent update (earlier one was okay) that locked me out again. DevMenu reversed the lockup and I reinstalled the earlier update. Game saves still intact - tho I just barely started the game. Took me 10days to find info on using DevMenu to roll back the update problems. Not easy to search internet when all they want to tell you is how to do a Nintendo update removal :-)

Honestly your best bet is to update to 7.0.1 it's perfectly safe and issues like that wont happen anymore
