It does though. Even the title screen on Yoshi's Island runs full speed with it disabled. But yeah the crashes are random.

without dynarec enabled, it barely runs at 20 fps in the rotating title screen. and the other parts, like the almost static game select screen don't run much more fluid either.

Not my experience on a New system, where the title screen does stabalize at 60. I do think it matters some which version of Retroarch you have, I'm using the now actually stable 1.7.7, DSP sound driver w/DSP1 dump, audio resampler quality = lowest, audio sync = off. There may be other settings to tweak, but if you have a New system fully exploited with Luma or equivalent, you definitely aren't getting the full performance you could.

i don't know how many times I've reset all options and deleted all configurations and set options, it's never even close.
i did it again, not even close. barely scratching 30fps. i don't know what magic configs you guys say you're rolling, but it's not doing anything on my n3ds.

Are you sure you're running at n3ds speeds? Enable the higher clock and extra L2 cache in the luma settings.

of course, they are enabled.
rosalina menu gives me the option to switch to lower clocks, so it's gotta be running at full clock.

mind to share your config files?

It runs like that by default.

Here's the config though if you want it: https://nofile.io/f/5hV0cdwpmvd/config.zip

maybe using a different version of bios or ROM file?

I've already tried multiple bioses over the years, just in case. never made a difference. and no game runs anywhere fullspeed without dynarec enabled. even standalone mgba runs better.
also, just to test the clockspeed being applied, if i change the options to low clock, it only reaches about 10fps

Have you tried turning off vsync, audio sync or both?

yes, all the typical demanding options have been on and off, with restarts inbetween.

this has been like that from the very first day i got my n3ds, gba emulation was just about the first thing i tried.

Are you sure your battery isn't shot? It might not be putting out enough power to run at full performance.

Running the latest nightly .cia, also runs at 60fps without dynarec for me. Default settings.

Clydefrosch, are you sure your new3DS is fully up-to-date? B9S, CFW, OFW?

I'd also like to mention a couple of small fixes and added cores.

-o2em (Oddessey/Videopac) Is now included in the latest nightly build *needs bios file
-vecx (Vectrex) Will be included in the upcoming nightly build *disable vsync

All .cia cores are now usable without them overwriting each other. Applies to:

-dosbox_svn (DOS) This core adds auto detect CPU cycles! And has keyboard rebinding cleaned-up.
-caprice32 (Amstrad CPC) Untested by me
-quasi88 (PC-8801) Untested by me

it's like one ofw update behind, that shouldn't be an issue though, this has been like that since ~9.X fw. its running latest stable luma through b9s now.

i did get the latest nightly the other day, am using .cias, but I'm not using either of these cores.

i don't believe there's anything wrong with the battery and it's running any n3ds exclusive normal

Has anyone here tried running CPS1 and CPS2 games on a N3DS?

runs fullspeed, i don't even think you need n3ds for them.

at the very least, the dungeon and dragons beat em ups and marvel vs capcom/darkstalker games do.

i think there's an xmen one i never got to run though. but it's probably a bad dump or something.

Try booting into Luma config (hold select while powering up.)
Which Luma version shows (should be 9.1), and also which options are checked? New 3DS CPU should be on Clock+L2 and nothing should be checked in the lower part besides game patching and show NAND, unless you have a good reason to.
