So, My PSP200 is hacked but I haven't updated or turned it on since 2013.

Is there something I should do to use it again besides charging it and turning it on?

Well, we'll need to know the firmware & whatever cfw you're running. Try checking Settings > System Settings (or something like that) > System Information and seeing what the Firmware line says.

How big were the sd cards the PSP 200 could read, 32 GB max? Because it has a 4 GB card and I wanna replace it.

And yes I haven't turned the thing on yet, we had electric storms two days in a row so it wasn't exactly safe.

I plugged the white PSP-200 to my computer but I see no lights or anything turned on to show the thing is charging, maybe the battery is dead?

you can't charge psp's from usb if is turned off or sleeping. you need a charger.

Also the battery is inflated so much it barely fits in.

So apparently I need a new battery.

Edit: Don't need a charger I got the usb cable that has the psp charger port. So just need a new battery. Even holding the thing down with my fingers so it fits it does not charge. Then again is the battery that came with the PSP, no wonder it died.

If you have the ability to do easy soldering, you can put a bigger battery in place of the UMD drive.

I did this with a smaller 2000mah battery about 6cm long so I wouldn't have to cut the PSP case. It just squeezed in and battery life is pretty good, maybe a little longer than the original battery. No idea if the "2000mah" battery I got was really 2000mah but it is easy enough to replace the battery again once you've done this mod.

Or I could waste a few bucks and just get a replacement clone battery since the dead battery is 11 years old.

Honesty the clones I found are quite cheap, so not risking my Star Wars model PSP-200.

Not to hijack the thread, but I just turned on my white psp go for the first time since probably 2015 or so. It’s on 6.20 pro b10. Is that outdated now? I have two gos and just wanted to check on them since I haven’t turned them on in years.

Did these cheap battieries actually work? Which ones?

All the replacement PSP batteries I've tried are complete shite: they lie about the capactity, often claiming crazy numbers like 2400 or 3600 mah. I bought 3 different generic PSP batteries. 2 last about an hour on a full charge, one had smoke come out the first time I tried to use it. Not worth the cost of shipping to return. I tore apart one of them to make the high capacity battery (bought from Adafruit) UMD mod.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

First, do not update. 6.20 is gold.

Second: Go here:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-softmod-hack-your-psp.293978/

Why is 6.20 so great?

What went wrong with later versions? I'm still using fast recovery (afraid permanent CFW will brick) and 6.60 and things seem fine. What am I missing? I only use emulators, never had any UMD disks.

I basically just need them so the console turns on, once that's done I can just use the charger, is not like the PSP is my traveling portable console anymore. And Sony doesn't make PSP batteries anymore I think?

I am not gonna risk soldering my Psp 200 unless that's the only option avaliable.

6.20 Is the earliest 6.x version that's hackable with the latest method. Therefore it lacks the patches applied in later versions to prevent hacking. 6.20 is also a permanent patch!

Yes, very. The latest is 6.61 Pro C2, but that has some issues with PSX games that 6.61 Pro C doesn't (C1 doesn't seem to have any other issues).
First, do not update. 6.20 is gold.
In what way? I see no benefits over 6.61 unless you're on a Go and too lazy for Fast Recovery.
(afraid permanent CFW will brick)
It won't, depending on the PSP model you want either cIPL (1000 or early 2000) or Infinity (late 2000, any 3000, or any Go). Alternatively, if you have a PSP Street (Europe only, no wireless, very cheap), those have no permanent patch and you will have to stick with Fast Recovery.
6.20 Is the earliest 6.x version that's hackable with the latest method.
Why is this a benefit? It just means you have fewer features that were added in the later firmwares.
Therefore it lacks the patches applied in later versions to prevent hacking.
If those firmwares have anti-hacking patches, then they're really bad at it...
6.20 is also a permanent patch!
So are Infinity and cIPL, which don't appear to have any problems on 6.61. In fact, I use 6.61 Infinity just fine on my 3000 with no issues.

Ehem:

[6.20's permanent patch will work on every PSP model that 6.20 can be installed on.6.60's permanent patch only works on the 1000 models and earlier 2000 models. If you have a 2000 and you're not sure if it's an early or late model, you can try the permanent patch, and if it tells you it's not supported you can downgrade to 6.20 and use the 6.20 permanent method (or if 6.20 is not supported, stick with the default temporary version]

Infinity works on all other PSPs. Mine isn't compatible with the cIPL flasher, but it works just fine with Infinity. I've only run Fast Recovery once because Infinity hasn't had any issues for me.

Good news I was able to turn on my Star Wars PSP 200 with the generic battery on..

Bad news, the generic battery is too fat and the battery cover doesn't fit.

System Software: 5 50

So I guess I will have to update.

I also got a 4 GB memory card and mini SD to memory Pro adapter.
