Unofficial: Alien vs. Predator Gold - Switch Edition

220px-AvP1.jpg

This is an unofficial Nintendo Switch port of the Fox Interactive / Rebellion Developments game, Aliens Versus Predator Gold.

Note: Requires the full game (AvP Gold or AvP 2000), both GOG or Steam work.

If you use AvP 2000, go there https://icculus.org/avp/files/etc/ and download english.txt, rename it to language.txt and put it with the assets into the same Folder as the NRO.

A correct setup will look like this:

All folders (but FMVs) must be lower case, also every file in every dir must be lower case.
"+" is Escape, "-" is Enter

Strafing sucks balls so I currently only enabled it for not Alien.
This is the first iteration, expect bugs.

Don't forget to map joycon controls in the options, else you will not be able to do much ingame, also it currently renders in 1080p, so handheld text will look small.

Known bugs:
- Profile sometimes doesn't want to load properly, load another profile, then use the change profile option and it should work
- Exit Game does not work
- Some stuff requires keyboard input (for example gamma control, works via docked or USB OTG), but the game can be played without it! Swkbd support is planned when I find time.

cant really do too too much due to the limited controls though heh
Controls are not limited, you can bind *every essential* key to be accessible.
Analog controls are different for alien because strafing does suck major balls for it. It turns the screen 45°, you can see it slightly with marine/predator too, but it ruins the game for me with alien, so I did what I did (also most of my alien binds are on the right dpad, so makes it easier to play for me :P )

I did not rename anything from my PC installation apart from the language.txt file.
Interesting. FAT32 isn't case sensitive but there are some case-sensitive compares, so it works with the default filenames?
That would be sweet.

View attachment 159677 The game crashes for me just past the AvP logo when the screen is with stars appears.

I have renamed everything to be lower case in my legal game folder from steam (AvP Classic 2000).

Please help!

Men I used to have the same issue using the same version of AVP that you are using and it crashed as soon as i started the game, follow the instruction to the letter, now, i notice that in the installation folder of the game, on the computer, there is a language.txt, copy that one to the switch, where you have you AVP files and that will fix the issue.

Note: You must follow the installation instruction here to the letter, all the files name must be in lower case but the folder (the name of the folder) for FVM, the only steep that you will skip is using the file from the link.

I'm to low level to post pictures but if you need further help, let me know.

OP, GREAT PORT men great work, donate to your cause!!!!!

Ok thank you very much for this extensive explanation! I will try that tonight.

Just to confirm, I do not rename the FMV folder with lower case, but does that also includes the actual files inside the FMV folder? Do I keep them as they came from Steam?

Thanks again!

Sorry, English is not mine main language.

Yes, the folder FMV must be on caps, it must be like this FMVs.

Now, all the files inside of the folder must be lowercase, including the file extension.

Ex: If the file original name is Snd2.FFL, then you must renamed to snd2.ffl.

Hope it clarify.

So u tell me that "If you use AvP 2000, go there https://icculus.org/avp/files/etc/ and download english.txt, rename it to language.txt and put it with the assets into the same Folder as the NRO." is not needed?
I couldn't try the steam ver, but that file works for me with the GOG version.
Didn't try the original file from the installation.

I’m using the Steam version and it actually already comes with the language.txt. I didn’t do anything except convert everything to lower case.

Hm. Well from my information you are supposed to replace it, else it won't work.
But if it causes issues... I will happily remove that note.

I had that file after installing, I replaced it and the game works

Works fine i didnt rename anything. Only replaced the language.txt file.

Hmm thats weird. There are some case sensitive compares, but otherwise fat32 should handle it.
I will check whats appropriate and update the OP when I find time.

Have you left the FMVs folder with upper case and/or renamed everything inside the FMVs folder to lower case or left it as is?

Thanks

Just a test i got the GOG version, uninstalled the Steam version, installed the GOG version and tried that one to, I can confirm that you do not need the "english.txt" file in order to work.

hi if not too much pain would you might sharing photos of your setup please? Files and folder heiarchy? I am using Steam install also but my game is crashing on startup. It loads and goes past the AvP logo screen but crashes just as you enter the main menu. I would really appreciate any help!

If it’s easier I have plaster photos of my file setup a few posts earlier so you could only compare my setup with yours? Wondering if there is anything abnormal there?

all i did was copy everything from the steam install to the AvP_Gold folder from the download here, even the language.txt file i downloaded from he link here i overwrote with the steam install to check it and it works fine apart from bindings.

this is sorted by Name

Thank you very much! I will try this out soon!

There is a new version of the game 0.3. OP, you recommend to use this version or keep using the 0.1?
