Hacking DS lite white screen

Hi , can someone help me? i recently found my old ds lite and bought a new r4 cartridge for it. Then I downloaded the latest kernel but whenever i open my ds lite it stays at the white screen. Could it be that my R4sdhc is not compatible for my ds lite?
