Only way to protect against bricks is by using Nand Backup as far as i know, and i did it using ReiNX toolkit.

I do agree that people should be educated on spotting malicious apps. But its still nice to have this featureWith browser exploits coming out soon, users on ipatched Switches could inadvertently run a revised SwitchFuckerUpper without the ability to make/restore a backup. I feel like educating the users on how to spot and not run malicious code would be better. I don't know about you or any of them, but I certainly don't have $300 USD to bet on Atmosphere.
