Nintendo has pushed out a new firmware update for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, 11.9.0-42. It's currently not known exactly what this update brings to the table, but as always, you might want to wait to see what scene developers say before updating your 3DS, if you want to keep using homebrew. The last update, 11.8.0.41, was released in July 2018, and managed to break multiple homebrew applications upon its initial release, so it's recommended to stay on your current firmware for the time being. As always, the patch notes are for the sake of stability.

Hi, When I run LUMAUPDATER it says it updates successfully but the next I boot it I see the old LUMA version still with it saying I have a backup on the new version? Is it safe for me to update past 11.7?

Try updating manually by downloading latest boot.firm and placing on root of sd

A friend told me in Order to Play Roms on a New 3ds XL a homebrew is necessary.

If you installed luma3ds then the downgrade was unnecessary. You can inject fbi to h$s app and install homebrew cia and other apps/games you want

I think my 3DS might be modded in a way from before boot.firm was being used... I think I have a9lh instead of b9h or godmode9 or whatever I'm supposed to have... I have hourglass9 and arm9loaderhax I'm fairly certain

EDIT: I also has borked TWLFIRM I am trying to fix with no luck... any ideas?

In order to play "roms" you need to install Luma cfw (there are others but Luma is the most commonly used and best supported). Luma is what lets you run the homebrew program needed to install the "roms (.cia files) as well as removing the checks that prevent you from running said games.

In other words, while it is possible to downgrade there is no point because in order to be able to downgrade you will already have everything you need.

In simple terms, yes.
But you need a way to install the 3ds cia's (roms) first like FBI or something and you need something like twilight menu ++ for ds roms

I thought i needed homebrew to Use FBI.
I couldn't Find any DM stuff in Here so.. i have my new 3ds, its SD Card + Adapter and a Laptop. Where so i start?
