I found a PC emulator, so might give that a try. But I was wondering if there was anything out yet for Wii U that would allow that.

Yeah, this dude may be able to help you out:

In all seriousness, it's not possible.
Technically you COULD port a Switch emulator to the Wii U. You could also port a Switch emulator to the Gameboy, but that doesn't mean it would run at a speed that's even close to playable by any terms whatsoever.

Most of the switch's library is on Wii U anyway lol

Yes exactly :P That's why I don't want to buy a switch, just for 1 or maybe 2 games.

The cheapness of GBATemp knows no bounds. People want their old consoles to play games that are on new consoles. It's funny.

Jeez the Wii U is not that old lol nearly all the games are the exact same, so you can't tell me it's an issue with hardware being outdated lol

I haven't done too much research on hardware specs, but I think these days the newer consoles are more of a sales gimmick because everyone has to have the newest console.

A few extra features/games. But then make other games exclusive to that new console even though it could be available on both.

Anyways I was considering getting the switch but it's such a waste when there's barely anything new. So I decided to save my money buy something better (an oculus rift).

Edit: So I'll stick with the PC switch emulator (even though my PC is "old" lol) but I think there might be (or could be) something that gets released onto the Wii U to play them in the future.

Keep dreaming. The Switch is more powerful than you think. Quite of few of it's games were also on PS4 like Doom Wolfenstein 2 etc... To emulate a console you need a console that's way more powerful, not one that's less powerful. It will never happen.

I understand if there are certain games like you mentioned (although then I'd just play it on PS4), but a lot of the games are the same ones I'd have on my Wii U.

I'm just talking hypothetically here, because from what I can see the emulation only exists on PC.

I know the switch is more powerful, but even just doing a couple minutes of research online suggests that there are some scenarios where the Switch only has a small difference compared to the Wii U when undocked.

So I would assume some of the games (or especially the ones that are the exact same as on the Wii U) would be capable of playing on the Wii U.

Anyways I know I'm probably talking out of my ass here lol Just doesn't make sense to me. Although it sort of makes a bit of sense if you're saying it's not the games thats the issue, but instead emulating the entire system. But then I imagine previously emulating consoles from a weaker PC and the emulator/games still work, but are just super laggy.

Being hardheaded about something that will never happen is pointless, move on with life. Notice people are making fun of you. I thought you were trying to be funny when you made this thread.

Bruh, why you trying to be so vindictive with me lol anyways thanks for pointing out that people are "making fun of me" but to be honest it doesn't really bother me to get made fun on the internet. (Or IMO I would call it attempted trolling lol)

As for being hardheaded. Sure, that's a compliment in my book.

But as for moving on with my life. Naw. I'm just asking a question and curious about it.

And no offence but I think you're wrong. There's a lot of BS on the net and you can't take things seriously from every person you interact with. Like how would anyone reading this know if you're just throwing out some random unreliable information out of your head.

So sometimes answers can be questionable especially when there's barely any technical responses as to why it can't be done

This is fundimentally the problem, because doing research into the hardware specs would answer the question.

There are 2 key reasons why running Switch games on the Wii U is not possible. Firstly, the Switch is actually a fair bit more powerful than the Wii U despite the amount of ports. Let's compare:

Wii U
CPU - 1.24 GHz Tri-Core IBM PowerPC "Espresso"
RAM - 2GB DDR3 (1GB accessible to the user)
GPU - 550 MHz AMD Radeon "Latte"

Switch
CPU - Octa-core (4×ARM Cortex-A57 & 4×ARM Cortex-A53) @ 1.020 GHz
RAM - 4 GB LPDDR4 (3GB accessible to the user)
GPU - Nvidia GM20B Maxwell-based GPU @ 768 MHz

Contrary to popular belief, the Switch is actually more powerful than the Wii U, and you need a host system many times more powerful than the system you are trying to emulate in order emulate the system at usable speeds. Secondly, the Wii U uses a PowerPC architecture compared with the ARM-based Switch. These architectures are not natively compatible, meaning you can't just run code intended for one on the other. Even if the Wii U were hypothetically more powerful than the Switch, the difference in architecture would make emulation unfesible (contrast with, say, the GameCube, Wii and Wii U being natively compatible due to the shared PowerPC architecture.

Of course your can, I can confirm it works:

What you need:
1. Switch.
2. Wii U.
3. Thick rubber bands.

Steps:
1. Strap the Switch to the WiiU GamePad, I use strong/thick rubber bands.
2. Boot up the Swtich.
3. You are now playing Switch roms ON the WiiU.

Well, you did ask how to play Switch Roms ON the WiiU.

To emulate a system you need a machine more powerful than what you're trying to emulate. PCs, especially gaming PCs, are generally more powerful than consoles. Nintendo consoles since the Wii have been considered weak compared to their Sony/Microsoft counterparts but each nintendo console is still more powerful than the previous. I skipped the wii u but previous gen games getting ported to the current gen doesn't say anything about the current gen's power other than it's at least as good as the previous. For that reason having a halfway decent switch emulator is *impossible* on the switch. Hell consider that pc versions of emulators are usually further along in development than the ones that come out for other machines, and the switch emulator for PC is still in an experimental phase. If it can't do what you want then your only option for running switch games will be to buy a switch, sorry.

You absolutely can! In fact, a few months ago I released a specialized loader that effectively turn your Wii U GamePad into a Switch. It'll download everything you need straight off the NUS - you can get games from the eShop later. Just run it with HBL! You'll have to watch the GamePad - I haven't sorted out TV support yet - but otherwise it's fully-featured and works exactly as you'd expect.

It works in a kinda similar way to Nintendont - A lot of Switch games, being Wii U ports, don't actually use the full extent of the hardware, so we can convince them to run acceptably on the older Wii U hardware. One of the emulated CPU cores is actually using the ARM inside the Wii U - that usually runs the IOSU but we can reclaim it for homebrew purposes. The other cores, rarely used by games, are emulated across the 3 PowerPCs. As for the GPU issue, by re-implementing the graphics sysmodule we can simply use the Radeon instead. No Switch software has any GPU-specific stuff in it, instead relying on the graphics sysmodule, so the games don't even notice anything wrong. As a neat speedhack, we even run some graphical effects on the old Wii GX (also in the Wii U - you've gotta use every last bit of the hardware!) As for RAM, since we've already unloaded the IOSU and can't run Cafe OS, we can reclaim all the OS-specific memory, resulting in having a little over 2GiB of RAM available - more than enough to run most games.

So yes, while the Switch is certainly more powerful than the Wii U in a lot of ways, we can do a reasonable job of bodging something together to make things actually run. Definitely give my loader a try - here's a download link - and enjoy all the games you can play.
