We have not heard from TX for a while, but don't worry, they back with nice new update to their SX OS, check out v1.4 below:

SX OS v1.4 Announcement
Good day, loyal users!

While we chip away at many different features for SX OS and additions to our SX hardware family we took a break to prepare an update for SX OS with some exciting new functionality and outstanding bug fixes.

Let's have a look at what's new and fixed in this release:
  • Integrated NSP installer
With our last update we introduced the possibility of installing eShop NSP titles. However, this relied on using external tools and wasn't very user friendly. In this release we bring our own integrated NSP installer as part of our menu system. This is the neatest and easiest way of installing NSP titles, enjoy!
  • Integrated homebrew launcher
Launching homebrew used to be done by launching NX HBMenu by holding R when entering the album. While we kept this possibility (mostly for developers), you can now also launch your favorite homebrew directly from our own menu!
  • IR / motion plus issue fixed
A few games (like 1-2-Switch and Resident Evil) were suffering from freezes when enabling the joycon IR camera or motion controls.
  • Allow unsigned NCA
People asked us if we could get rid of the NCA integrity checks, so we did! Custom NCA files, modified NCA files and repackaged NCA files should all work fine now.
  • Display SX OS version in menu
To better distinguish the different versions of SX OS we introduced a small version number display in our menu.
  • LayeredFS fixes for 4.1.0
There were certain issues with 'LayeredFS' for people on firmware 4.1.0. If you use 'LayeredFS' on that specific firmware there's good news for you: these issues have been identified and fixed!
And that's that for this release. We have quite the backlog of feature requests and todo's on our plate, but trust we'll get there!

First off, I think it's time that SciresM go edit his old Reddit post about how impossible it will be to ever pirate eShop titles. :)

Secondly, speaking of SciresM (and others).... what will their apps provide that we don't already have with SX OS 1.4? We have backup loading, eShop titles (DLC and updates), Homebrew launching. Other than Atmosphere and the likes being free, what new things will they bring to the table? Emunand? (Which IMHO, is pointless at this stage.)

Ok, now on to the main topic, got a few questions regarding the installation of eShop titles:

1) When installing eShop titles, any advantages (other than maybe faster loading times) to installing them in system RAM vs. SD card?
2) When you install to SD card, does it go back and delete the .NSP file or must you use a file manager or power down the Switch and remove the SD card to remove .NSP files once they're installed?
3) If you select the option to install to SD card, what directory do they end up in?
If I remember correctly, that post wasn't about how it was impossible to pirate eShop titles. The post was about how if you pirate eShop titles, then play online with them, Nintendo can easily tell and you're pretty much guaranteed to get banned.

I'm sure that a loophole will eventually come that'll get banned people unbanned or for someone to make private servers (for banned people) so they can still play online.

problem is, that there is also CDN banning, this would mean: no more firmware updates and no more software updates... so some day you wont be able to play new games anymore, because of your old firmware. I dont care at all about online gaming, online gaming sucks anyway on nintendo platforms.

You can always install an update manually with homebrew tools.

Sorry if this is a noob question but if I am using XCI for my backup and then I switched to NSP for the same game, does my save file transferred?

Yes.

Because it's the same game and even if you delete the cartridge version it stores it on system memory. So if you install the eshop version it should be able to detect the save and you can carry on from where you left off.

Yeah but CDN banning only occurs when you are trying to install free eshop games with your own cert. So people who aren't doing that should be fine. Even then most video tutorials bundles with a certificate with its own cert.

also firmware update? game update yes, but firmware? I dont think so
You can already do that. Just take a look at the guide for updating without burning fuses.

Also many cartridges will have the new update in them, the only thing you would have to do is dump the update from them.

I only want to get back online so I can play Splatoon 2 again with my cousin (I own a legitimate cartridge of the game).

not true. there will always be a way to update through unofficial methods.

good for us what you think is irrelevant. firmware updates can be done through carts.

Used 1.3 with XCI's for weeks and played splatoon 2 online from cartrige on ofw without problem. Installed NSP's with the new tx update last night and was console banned instantly. Worth it imo. Just a heads up.

Not happening if you couldn't live without the online then you shouldn't be greedy downloading games for free

Nice update! As far as the nsp installer, does it do batch installs like devmenu? I didn't see an option for this.

As far as i know nintendo doesnt instaban. Whatever caused your ban it might not be the nsp installation. Playing xcis offline ans going online is enough i think.

One of those would be to manually edit the firmware requirement of a dumped game and then injecting a higher firmware on the dump and let it use that instead.
