What would you do if you had a 3.0 Switch and SX Pro?

Hi all, I have seen similar threads but I decided I wanted to ask for myself. So I ,like many of you, have a SX Pro on the way. My switch is currently at 3.0. and I will add I only have half of the BOTW DLC I paid for Missing the 2nd update, no Champions) I was keeping the Switch at 3.0 in order to use Atmosphere but now that I have SX on the way... What is the best course of action? I would very much like Coldboot so I have to stay on 3.0 correct or did that change? Should I update to current OFW without burning fuses? Then I could just download the DLC? I have a physical copy of Odyssey, should I go to 3.0.1? Then at least I could play Odyssey. but no cold boot right? And just FYI, buying a second switch is not an option, unless its $100 or less, lol... Also, is there a method to update w/o burnt fuses using the SX pro dongle?

What would you do?

Please vote and tell me why in the comments!

Thank you!

SX offers nothing over Atmosphere. If I were you, I'd return the SX Pro while I could and patiently wait for Atmosphere.

Do what I did, update to 3.0.1 without burning fuses. Been playing smo fine. Be aware though, if you're intending on going to anything above 4.x firmware, you need to use the kip that's generated when running choidujuor, otherwise a fuse will be burnt in your cartridge slot controller, rendering it useless in any firmware under 4.x.

Cool. I am leaning this direction. I would stay on 3.0.1 anyway. I an only really interested on the exclusives for the most part. SMO,ARMS,and such all work in 3.0.1. I have a PS4 for most other games...

So recently someone created this hack that gives you all the info you want, it's called google.com, check it out!

I understand the options. Google won't get me a current poll. This information changes quickly at times and it's easy to fall out of the loop. So I ask the community. In a forum meant to discuss these things. Go away troll. I don't need you and your disruptive 2 year old baby BS attitude. Piss off. You and others like you are the true plague to the community. Not Gateway, Not TX, YOU. And that goes for any other trolls lurking out there too. I don't care about politics or your feelings. Go tell your mamma. If you don't like it, don't involve yourself in the thread. We don't need you. If you have constructive comments I would love to hear from you. I am trying to see what the consensus is on this issue. And BTW there is no thread I could find that talks about everything I am concerned about.

Okay, so I saw 3.0.1-4.0 are the same as far as Atmo goes. And I see it going to have untethered soft mod. I don't mind waiting for Cold boot as long as in the end, 3.0.1 (or 4.1) will eventually have all the same features in At,osphere. Is that the case?

If so would you update with the SMO Cart then? Or go through the fuse protected update process? Seems there is no reason to go back to 3.0 right? Ill have a SX Pro anyway and cold boot is just a dangle away anyway..

First off I would like to say that I have a similar attitude to the people of this forum that have the 2 year-old mentality. It was very entertaining to see you calling it out for what it is- DISRUPTIVE.

Now to give my 2 cents... I would assess what you want from the switch to guide your decisions. Personally, I do not care about ported games because I have a ps4 that offer those games with a better experience. I only have the switch for Nintendo's games. Their IP has such amazing gameplay. I would update the switch to play those games with their updates and DLCs. That is my top priority.

I would argue that we have one of the easiest methods for hacking the switch. The dongle purchase makes it even easier. Coldboot is just icing on top. It would be great, but it doesn't add much to your experience. If this is keeping you from experiencing these great games you are missing out. Furthermore, if you care about homebrew you can still use it on other firmware versions so that shouldn't come into the equation (I have experienced some homebrew software working better in certain firmware versions but I am almost certain that will change in the next few months and it wasn't a big deal).

The last point I have is speculative. I believe the switch hardware is not going to last for long. Not only is it using mobile hardware that we see getting iterative refreshes every year from the phone and tablet industry, but also the switch seems underpowered already. I think a refresh model might be coming soon (like 2-3 years). Everyone will jump ship to that platform. This whole game of finding an exploit and porting all this software will begin again. Who knows, it might have a vulnerability that gives access to coldboot on a CFW. In the meantime, I am going to make decisions that allow me to have fun in that time frame and not waste it waiting for the homebrew & hacking scene to mature. 20 years into the future, you will probably not buy a retro switch but the retro refreshed version. You will put all the hacks on it to play these Nintendo classics that cannot be downloaded anymore from the defunct eshop. It is just like gameboy, gameboy color, and gameboy advanced. Unless you have some strong preference for the other 2, you will most likely buy and hack the advanced that plays all the games.

Other - buy a second switch on 2.2 firmware for diddling around with homebrew on, and buy games like a grownup on my 5.1 switch.

If you are on 3.0 just update without burning fuses. From the rate of things it may be a while before emunand is available. The way i see it is if i update to 5.1 without burning fuses i can dg for warmboot on 1.0. Even though my cart slot wont work doesn't matter because its just my entry to emunand. So the same can be said for you on 3.0

After reading this thread im considering updating myself without burning fuses. I will never use this switch for online play, and as long as the fuses are in tact I can downgrade then use emunand, at which point the cart slot would be working. I really hate rendering my cart slot useless on lower firmware, but this may be the best move. I only hope that there isn't some cart slot exploit in the future that was rendered useless by this update, but only time will tell on that. I'm also hoping that I don't decide to take the leap, then the next day TX releases an update to load custom kips, allowing me to use the kip to disable the cart slot on higher firmware...

4.1.0 has a coldboot still

Just upgrade to that with the Kirby cart...4.1.0 plays all the games according to the firmware thread

Its the best firmware

not Octopath Traveler and Captain Toad Treasure Tracker :(
but still I also have mine on 4.1.0 and there are lots of games available for me to play

So it seems if I update to 3.0.1 from 3.0 using the Super Mario Odyssey Cart I don't really lose anything. Ill have to wait for the coldboot but it will come and that's the only difference. Is that correct? All the articles I read seem to say 3.0 has cold boot at launch and 3.0.1 is soon. Is there any other differences? I cant find any.

Thank you all for your input BTW. This is what the Temp is meant to be. Cheers!

Yes, you burn a fuse, update using smo without burning fuses.

there is not reason to stay on any firmware lower than 5.1.0 using sx pro.
non sx pro or sx users can wait for atmosphere and stick to 3.0.0

I was thinking something along these lines (in Quantumboy's post; sorry, I was unable to link directly to the post in question...)
https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-update-to-5-1-without-getting-banned.511040/

The downside being the pita of remembering the vol+ procedure at future updates/restarts... haven't quite decided myself yet, but seems less painful than the Rajkosto-method. Hopefully all this becomes less and less painful to do soon.
