I don't see any advantage in AutoRCM if your switch is always turned on,

Ok thanks. That’s what I thought. And to go to OFW you basically just turn off the switch and then turn it on again right?
And if you want to return to CFW you just use the jig, correct?

Yes, if you haven't installed AutoRCM, you just need to turn off your console and turn it on again to boot in OFW. To return to CFW you need to use a jig to boot in RCM and inject the payload with the dongle to load CFW.

Appreciate any advice. I have a switch on 3.00fw that I haven't touched. Bearing in mind that I am a technical ignoramus is there anything I should do to prepare it for cfw? I never bothered with pegaswitch/hbl as I have emus on my ps vita but will I need to install this for cfw?

This guide will closely mimic how we will be installing Atmosphere in the future. If you can follow it from start to finish, you're good to go: https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-1-x-5-x-how-to-run-homebrew-on-your-nintendo-switch.506529/

Thanks for taking the time to reply. To be honest that looks pretty complicated - would it be easier to do it via pegaswitch as I am on 3.00fw?
We don't know if PegaSwitch will be used to load Atmosphere or not and PegaSwitch is also very troublesome to set up. I can assure you that the guide you are looking at includes some unnecessary stuff such as dumping your NAND and setting up homebrew which not all users will do. At the very least, if you can boot the Switch into RCM and send a payload via USB connection, you will be able to use Atmosphere in the future.

Okay, thanks!

Has there been any case of anyone using just the homebrew launcher and things within that and getting banned?
Wanting to back up my save files on my main console. Just been wondering if it would be considered 'safe'-ish.

Is it better to wait for Atmosphere or should I just go with SX OS.... any advantages in waiting for atmosphere aside from it maybe being free?

What is all that racket about that "burned fuse"? What fuse are we talking about? What is that? Is it a physical fuse that can burn out and how does that happen?!

2 users were banned, both for editing their saves (which is a step further than just dumping them).

It depends on you. If you want to play backups now, SX OS is the way to go. If you don't want to spend any money to play backups, you will have to first wait for Atmosphere to be done then for someone to make a backup launcher for it.

It is a set of physical fuses within the console that are permanently burned every few system updates or so. This is to prevent downgrades as if you try to boot a firmware that does not match the number of fuses burnt, the Switch will not turn on. After following the scene for more than a year I was away for the past 3 weeks, is there a current state of play on how I can use some kind of CFW? (Have a jig)
Also, is the SX OS (and its license, not Pro) something i can buy for digital delivery (anywhere recommended if so?) or a physical product code?

Yes, if you follw this tutorial: https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-1-x-5-x-how-to-run-homebrew-on-your-nintendo-switch.506529/

The SX OS has to be bought through a reseller. Not sure how it is distributed but, for some reason, certain sites will list it as out-of-stock. I am also unsure which sites currently have it vs. which ones are more trustworthy than others so use your best judgement.

Hello. Aside from the paperclip, SD Card (32 GB for NAND dumping I think), and USB-C to USB-A cable; does one need any other accesory for Switch modding/Switch CFW in general? And also will I need any other accesory for future hacking releases, like Atmosphere CFW, something else I would need to buy in order to install it? Thanks.

A second Switch in case your banned. Jokes aside, that's all of the physical components needed to hack your Switch and run CFW/hacks (which you can do in semi-user-friendly ways now)

I just got my jig, im wondering if I can boot into rcm and tinker with homebrew/back ip my saves without getting bannes. No SX OS involved.

If I buy SX OS for the Switch with 3.0 FW will I be able to play backups that require a newer firmware?

Any advice would be appreciated.

See here for all evidence about current bans: https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendo-switch-banning-hub.508710/ (This is not advertising :P)

Not until they add a firmware spoofer, EmuNAND, or implement a fuse bypass in their OS.
