Hello,

Is it true that nintendo is going to change all unsold consoles to new ones soon?

Will that prevent me from using sx os and other homebrew loaders and stuff? Did team executer promise that their sx os and cfw will work on any switch also in the future?

SO

Should i buy switch now or later? Now switch cost 300 euros in my homeland.

What do you guys think?

Yes, they are likely making new Switches with the bug fixed.

No, TX only said any FW, it probably won't work on patched Switches.

Buy it now if you want homebrew.

Mariko will replace Gen1 Switches in the near future. This isn't really a rumor, it's just a matter of when.

No hardware mod will work. Your SX dongle will be useless.

Buy now before Mariko units start rolling out.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

They won't change unsold consoles to the Mariko ones, but the non-Mariko ones will be sold out eventually.

If there is a report of Mariko ones starting to sell you can always buy a second hand console.
Heyy, you're a moderator now? Congratulations!

They'll definitely change repairs and refurbs.

The Tegra X1 is a bad chip long-term as well so it serves as a double-whammy on long term shrinking pool. It runs hot which is never good for long term reliability.

What?

It runs pretty cool thanks to the Switch's cooling setup. The temps are really low in comparison to some other mobile devices.

The Tegra X1 is a hot chip, it being run cool by heavy cooling doesn't change the nature of a 20 nanometer fab. That's why some switches experience warping and the fan turns into an airplane with certain games.

It's a very poor node.

It's not a "very poor" node, it's just from 2015 so it's not the latest tiny tech.

I'm gonna get another used switch so I can sell for double in a couple years lol
That 'couple years' will probably be alot longer than you might think, I doubt anyone in the right mind would buy an inferior switch for double the price, although that may eventually happen due to nostalgia or something. But it's not like the current gen is rare or anything.

Given how many units have been sold and are out in the wild now I'm pretty sure you're not going to be able to sell any current Switch even new let alone used for $600. Had to talk a family member out of doing the same. Used you'd be lucky to even sell it for the retail price of a new console.

Well with 18 million+ Switches sold, it shouldn't be that hard to find a used one

Yeah going around asking people when they've bought their systems is not gonna be annoying. I'll rather buy an extra one now used so I know for sure

You guys are too smart

If it's for your own personal use I'd say go for it, but don't expect to make any money off it by holding onto it and trying to sell it later.

Another question regarding the selling of Switches in 2 years, how long do we expect the Switch to last in realistic terms? In 2020, we will have the PS5, shortly followed by the new Xbox console (if they do one). At that point, the switch architecture will be severely lagging behind. We might very well get the next evolution of Switch console around that time.

To be fair, it's already lagging behind. But since it's portable it will as the 3DS get exclusives because of that.

Exactly, that's why I used the word severely. As for the portable argument, I don't know... I really can't see it having the longevity that the 3DS has had. The 3DS has seen off the Vita, has sold better than the Wii U and original gameboy and is even still selling well now, besides the fact the switch is out. The Switch is a console / tablet with passthru. It just so happens that it can be carried about, but Nintendo are treating it as the Wii's successor and not strictly a portable.

I don't know man. A lot of developers are interested in it because of the portability. And in Japan portable devices are huge!

They will only be interested in it as long as public reception to it is strong. It will be interesting to see how the exploits hit Nintendo's sales margins. But I was talking more from the perspective of old hardware in 2020 vs PS5 / Xbox hardware in 2020. Sure, it will still be a portable tablet, but who knows.

Time will tell I guess. I'm curious about the next generation Sony and Microsoft. Because this generation was really lacking behind PC at launch instead of being slightly ahead or atleast neck and neck.

Oh definitely yeah, but hasn't that always been kind of the way. Consoles behind vga by a couple of generations of cards. I have a PS4 and a Gaming PC and so the difference on multi-platform games is really jarring. It's the reason I only play exclusives on my PS4. Saying that, some of them still look amazing - God Of War for example. I can't imagine that looking any better, it's really amazing what some developers can do with ageing gpus.
