I think the plan was always to carry it to mid-2019 at least, but it gets its own individual announcements still. I don't think the new Pokemon games will be on 3DS, and honestly nobody will want them to be after they get a taste of HD and 60 FPS. 3DS has had three separate pairs of Pokemon games already, time to move on indeed.
I know Nintendo has plans to milk the 3DS for as long as possible, but I really just hope they don't make anymore Pokémon games for it. Gamefreak can accomplish so much more if they are just focusing on the Switch and 4 games just seems like they are going to push for quanity over quality.

The only reason the 3DS is still alive is because they are milking the last few dollars out of everyone before people ditch the 3DS entirely, you can tell the 3DS is dying by the upcoming releases lists.
True. While the 3ds lacks in hardware sales, the software sales is still a huge chunk in nintendo's market. Though evidently, its hard to make a huge hit again with the 3ds since major game IPs are moving on to the switch already. I hate the 3ds to go away, but the sales has gone to the peak already so we cant expect it to bloom once more.

Dunno reading there investor meetings its pretty clear 3DS is far from dead.

"This graph shows Nintendo 3DS software sellthrough figures for 2017 compared against the two previous years. Overall totals for 2017 were down compared to 2016 when Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon had globally intense sales levels, but exceeded 2015 in the US and European markets."

It's obvious there is no decline at all, they actually keep selling really well.

"the Nintendo 3DS family of hardware has continued to sell steadily without significant fall-off, even after the release of Nintendo Switch."

"It is also positioned as an affordable product for budget-conscious consumers. We will continue working to promote Nintendo 3DS to these consumers."

If you see there software sales even when the switch launched, it's pretty much half of the switch. And the switch sold insane amounts of software in it's first year.

Switch is far from dead and honestly i could see gamefreak go the hybrid way. A switch game with a 3DS tie in just to dig into the already existing market.

"The Nintendo 3DS characteristics, price points, and play styles differ from Nintendo Switch, and we intend to continue the Nintendo 3DS business separately and in parallel."

"A multitude of titles across a wide variety of genres have been released for Nintendo 3DS, creating one of the strongest lineups ever. We are, of course, continuing to develop new software, but we believe it is important to leverage the rich library of Nintendo 3DS series titles to drive sales with Nintendo 3DS owners, as well as consumers who recently purchased Nintendo 3DS hardware."

This kinda means that they will start to promote more of the already existing library for the 3DS towards consumers but also keep creating new titles for it.

I think we can still aspect a lot more titles in the future, the 3DS isn't going anywhere.

the 'leak' screenshots look like a straight 3ds graphics port though. If they can compress the rom size under 4gb it can appear on 3ds (ive never seen a rom over 4gb) unless they make a custom expanded cartridge or something

Oh, I'm sure they'll keep making them as long as they're selling well. Maybe for a year or two tops.
I meant software wise though. And once new games aren't being released anymore it's not going to sell as much.

For some reason I feel like I read there would be no more "mainline" Pokemon games on 3DS, if the whole rumour is true this "Let's Go" thing could be classed as a spin-off and maybe it could appear on the 3DS.

Honestly, they have the engine for 3DS and we already know the Pokemon models are higher poly than they need to be on 3DS so I wouldn't say its out of the realm of possibility we see this happen, while I'm all for having it come out on both platforms I won't be hurt if it doesn't just another thing I'd be interest in a Switch for, if it comes to 3DS its just another Pokemon game I might not get to... not the biggest fan, I mostly playthrough the "story" and move on, did X/Y, Sun/Moon and not really touched Ultra and if this is a Kanto Remake like the rumours suggest then meh.

First of all we don't realy know what will these "Lets Go!" games be. I can pretty much tho say that for 100% every rumors that we have right now is basicaly a bullshit.

If it's a spin-off (and seriously, it will be) then we can see it practicaly on everything, mobile phones included. With a title like that i would not be surprised if it's just some clock app with cute mascot pokemon, probably with some Pokemon GO connectivity.

Also, something that i think only one youtuber pointed out and it's extremely important detail - When sites for earlier were registered, there was always involved Gamefreak in some way but this time they left it completely for somebody from the outside.

Also, i realy don't see that quick post-E3 damage control confirmation of Pokemon on Switch as a 100% valid. Sure, it would sucks but considering how Nintendo still want to cash in on 3DS i can see them delegating Gamefreak to work on 3DS title. What Gamefreak want to do is realy irrelevant.

Whatever this let's go! thing is, I find it 100% unbelievable that Nintendo does not have the main Pokemon studio working on some Switch-exclusive Pokemon game to force people onto their latest hardware. That is the main purpose of first-party exclusives after all.

Holy hell, when are you're going to give up? It's not coming to the 3DS, buy a Switch if you want to play it.

Thing is I don't even want it on the Switch. It they think this is going to bring people over from a phone app they can play without special hardware then they aren't very smart.

yeah not happening on 3ds for sure, everytime a game was cross gen 3ds/switch nintendo always announced it
captain toad
fire emblem warriors etc.

they only ported some wiiu games to 3ds becuase wiiu was a huge flop, the switch isnt a flop so they have no reason to downport a game really.

Something tells me it's just going to be switch only. I think the only reason Pkmn let's go even exists is because it was a pet project and offshoot from the development of the actual full pkmn game(the one coming in 2019). They made it as a testing grounds for getting to grips with development for the switch and to have the Pokémon name out their while they're working un updating the assests for the rest of the 100's of Pokémon. Makes sense since this games visuals look so simple and it only includes gen 1 pokemon iirc

Pretty sure this is only for Switch. Sorry buddy but 3DS it's at the end of its life. If you still want to play it, better to look at the games which you missed from your backlog;

The 3DS will likely still get some games like Persona Q2 and the ones already announced so it's not dead yet. I already have a Switch but I certainly wouldn't buy one if I didn't just for this game as it looks....

Let's just say not very good to me.
