Hardware Any Router Recommendations to Replace Asus RT-AC88U?

My current router (Asus RT-AC88U) is having Wifi issues despite my attempts to fix it (e.g. changing the channel, resetting, etc.).

It's almost a year old but in warranty so I'm looking around to consider alternatives or replacing this.

Is there any models anyone can please recommend as an alternative to this?

Tell me you atleast tried running Merlin-WRT on it before throwing it away? Asus routers require Merlin-WRT to work properly!

Yes, I'm running the latest Merlin.

I've also tried hunting around for different settings to try.

Believe it or not, but the Asus official firmware is Shibby Tomato with a Asus coat of paint on it. This is the reason why it's opensource.

Have you done a proper reset after installing 345.5? Because if you upgrade from 340.X to 345.X you most likely need to do a complete NVram reset.

The irony if that's true is that Shibby doesn't support this model.

Well it's Tomato based, if it's shibby I can't swear on. Because the recovery mode show a tomato, as does Shibby Tomatos recovery mode.
Strange, maybe it's a bad batch. I try to not go for the gimmy once. That's why I got a RT-AC68U. It fits my needs and doesn't look so ugly.

I mean, you could try AC88U with DD-WRT, but generally DD-WRT is junk nowdays.



You can also try a 340.X build that is updated and see if that does anything for you. Else it's a hardware issue.

Im suspecting hardware, its why Im asking around for alternatives since I can either get it replaced or get a refund and buy an alternative.

What the heck, it isn't opensource the AC88U. So Merlin can only implement the SDK. Boo Asus, boo!

To be honest, go for a RT-AC68U. It works like a charm.

I've been thinking about taking a different route, returning the Asus router and instead getting a separate WAP with some other equipment being used for a router/switch.

The two WAPs I'm currently considering are:

I'm kind of leaning towards the Ubiquity since it includes a PoE injector (handy since I plan on putting this in places annoying for power supplies).

Any opinions on these or other WAPs?
