Newly bought switch with firmware 4.1,sdcard needs update to read and format.
I would rather stay in 4.1 till atmosphere formally released.
But will this interfere hacking like cannot soft mod or hard mod without a readable sdcard?

I'm about to buy one as well and was wondering the same.

format it to fat32 with guiformat http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm (CLICK THE PICTURE!) and try again. It's probably in Exfat at the moment.
Not sure this is the best suggestion though.

Now, I won't pretend I know how NAND backups and all that stuff is saved, but fat32 has a file size limit on 4 GB which could potentially be problematic.

EDIT: yeah, seems like *something* needs to be over 4GB at least.
the faq said:
The recommended size is at MINIMUM 64GB. This is because while the SD card is SOLD as 32GB, the actual formatted amount is ~28-29GB. We will have to store an image on the SD card that is roughly 32GB in size, so no a 32GB card will not work.

I agree, Atmosphere will have support for ExFAT. If I remember correct it's already implemented. So it would be just to load the CFW someway and of to the races. But if they want to use it now, that's the only way at the moment.

Here is even a payload to dump your NAND with EXFAT support.

Indeed, but I interpret his question as: "Do I need to update to make the SD card readable by the Switch, to be able to use the SD card when hacking it later?"

Use this for NAND backup, it takes it in multi-parts for this reason. Hopefully there's a way to inject the driver with fusee too.

Then the answer is no, you don't need to have it readable by the Switch at the moment. Since Atmosphere will support EXFAT.

Exfat is a Microsoft proprietary format so you have to google how to set up exfat from Linux. It isn't as easy as say Fat32. Also it's only Windows that can create Exfat by formating it "normally".

However - https://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?topic=12121.0

Do the apt-get first, then follow: https://linuxforums.org.uk/index.ph...PHPSESSID=bhkv49dh1m7grhom497vril7h3#msg98331
I can't do apt-get for now I have said and gparted doesn't propose it

Gparted doesn't have support to create exFAT, atleast not the last time I checked it out.

sudo apt-get install gparted

That command will work.

I already have gparted and ... I CAN'T USE APT-GET FOR NOW

I upgrade to 18.04

Well as I said, gparted can't do it the last time I checked. Check the links I posted when you actually can do it.
