Try reading existing threads next time, instead of opening a new one. Try grouping answers in existing threads where they make sense, instead of insisting, that you deserve your own service thread, that will never be seen by any other person, once it has left the front page - resulting in more work for us all - over time, if some people would use the search function (because they will almost never find the help MEEEEE threads - which are designed to only ever help one person - by that person). Of curse (typo?) millenials never use search. To them it feels like shopping in a thrift store.

Also we all know, that they are special - so they don't have to.

Sega still is not a console, no matter how hard americans believe it is. (When their parents mistook the brandname for the name of the product, most american children just believed them and didn't bother to fact check for 30 years... No biggy.)

vba and snesx2010 work with savegames out of the box, if you remember to actually exit retroarch (press + and - and choose quit) instead of "millenialing it and just hitting the home-button and waiting until it gets kicked out of memory".

The best emu for Genesis and Master System and Gamegear games on the Switch arguably still is pfba - which supports savestates.

beetle psx still is unusable, but never fails to be mentioned.

For picodrive and nes - although I've asked twice already - no one would wan't to confirm or deny if a savepath has to be set for savegames to be stored (typical way was to set it in settings prior to launching your game - then more current builds made it so, that the save dir would default to the rom dir you are launching from - which allowed for skipping this step. Long story - read the retroarch thread (from the back)) - and I still can't be nagged enough to find out for you.

Short answer is: Yes, they work in all of them.

Long answer is hidden in the previous paragraphs. Reading comprehension required, good luck.

There's no reason to be a jerk to someone who asked a question. So what if they didn't use the search function. You are not part of GBATemp staff, so you have no say in what anyone can or can not post.

If The3rdknuckles has the right to be too lazy to search for the answer and too inconsiderate to not clutter up the forum with unnecessary threads, then notimp has every right to be a jerk.

Going by the "if I've answered a question five times already" rule. :)

Of course, there is always the option to wait for someone else to answer the question more politely - but chances are, if the answer is a little more complex, people might tell you a part of the answer, or one part they understand, but not paint you the entire picture.

At which point we are right at the crossroads of

- either you deal with "experts" ("I say, Lord Percy, how invigorating!") who tend to have answered a very original question a few times already - after just a few months

or

- you are banking on the "i've just discovered this myself - and here is how you do it" proponents of the "still in the process of giving back" ethos - but those usually dont tend to stick around, and get fewer in numbers if you ask a question on a topic thats not - first and foremost - current.

In the short term the "everyone gives back just a little" method of sharing favors and information freely works. In the long term, the chances, of you asking the same group of people questions they have attended to dozens of times in the past - rises.

Striking a balance should be the goal. Theres where "maybe I should read up on the information already existing in this forum" comes in. If you then still have a question - feel free to ask it.

This is a thing in forums, that don't structure themselves around being the best "scrolling questions feed" they can be - but rather - communities, in which you can count on people you know (that would be the optimum, because it strengthens the chances of people actually feeling a need to give back, after they have received a favor) to give informed answers.

(This still was a very "general question". Concerning "all the emulators", which would be hard to answer - if unlike in this case - some would work, and some wouldnt. Here the initial believe was, that saving would not work on any of them. This was easily negated. ("Saving works on all of them.") In cases like these, irony (ok, sarcasm.. ;) ) is a pretty good fit.. ;) )

Ok so rather than me asking what I did can someone shoot me some links? Cuz the .nro files I’ve tried either don’t run at full speed, don’t save, or can’t even find my roms.

Use VBA Next (the not slow one.. ;) ). It saves. If you exit the emulator with + and - and quit, the save file gets generated in the rom directory and will be loaded the next time you start the rom. Savestates currently don't work reliably - but saves (in game saves) do.

Have fun. :)

Reading be hard. ;)

You can read the retroarch threat.
VBA does save, as stated in the threat only ingame saving works. Save states don't work, or after many tries. Just use the ingame saving and exit with + -

Why are you asking for help and than tell others they are wrong? Both me and notimp are actually playing games on those emulators at this moment.. Saves work fine, it's your error.

Looking for trouble shooting I guess because I tried both and neither of the 2 worked making it incorrect for me. Hence it being wrong.

my friend you are not crazy. In fact I make a 16 part series where I document all my troubles along with some interesting findings. I can give you an important tidbit. That roms will not show if you have more than 100 in a folder. So make sub folders. Saving does work. I would recommend installing app store and then the latest emus. Oddly not all emu files are created the same and oddly I prefer an older nes to the one offered last time I checked. As for how to save it varies. In some versions I did savestate and in some in game but as others stated a menu load of retroarch was needed to like make the saves take. All in all it's an early scene and I do document everything step by step and explain as I go. I hope this helps you...

Okay.
Download the VBA next and a pokemon emerald rom.
Play till you are able to save in the start menu (ingame start menu of pokemon).
Wait till the game says it saved
press + and - simultaniously
press B, exit retroarch and you'll go back to HBL
start up VBA next and see if the game is saved.
