Hacking Question Checking firmware version and deleting downloaded software update data?

How does one check the currently installed firmware version of their Switch? The way you are supposed to is by going to software update but for me it says that an update is available rather than specifying the current version.

Also, my Switch automatically downloaded the latest firmware, so I turned off my wireless so it doesn't happen again, but now it keeps prompting me to install the update. Is there a known way to delete the update? I'm guessing Nintendo wasn't naive enough to store the update on the SD card so I can't just pop that out and delete it from my PC.

I will initialize my console and report back, I'm really worried if it will automatically update when you initialize though.

You don't need to fully initialize. If I remember correctly, the menu also has an option to just remove the downloaded update files.

That is not an option listed. I successfully deleted the update data, however, with an initialization without save deletion. Also, in the maintenance menu, you can see your firmware version. Still have all my saves and options. Hopefully this is useful to someone in the future.

Can you list the steps to delete the firmware download? I’m On 2.20.

I can confirm that simply opening that menue delets update data...now I completely disconnected wifi

October 2024, here to say that just opening the Maintenance menu deletes the downloaded update. Still working, on version 18.1.0 of Switch.
I was going nuts because version 19.0.0 is been pushed out and there is no support for CFW yet. This helped me a lot!
