I still buy 3DS games despite owning a hacked 3DS. Hell, I just recently bought Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. Again, only a minority of 3DS owners actually hack their own 3DS. It's been talked about for years now and there's been studies that show that piracy doesn't really affect too much in the gaming market. It affects it on a small degree, but that's about it.

Yup, unless your market is basically 3rd world countries there is really no noticeable piracy impact on game sales. This has been proven time and time again, i get publishers (and to a lesser extent devs) pushing that narrative but when people do it is infuriating, like when people defend DRM (it's like they like to get abused).

So, what is the "keys" situation going to be with this hack (and the other ones proliferating now)?? I remember a month or so ago all the discussions where about: "how we get decriptions keys from nintendo...nintendo will change them with every new firmware...." etc.

A perfect example, Witcher 3, they didn't have DRM and everything was fine.

It will be a bit like 3ds. sysNAND with lower firmware for access to exploits, cfw emuNAND for playing newer titles. At least that's what I've gathered from the notes for atmosphere-nx on github.

I'd like CFW for one thing mainly
be able to play games i already own on wii u, without paying them twice
I agree with port, but theres way too much port, I won't buy them all
"I won't pay for this game that nintendo put work into to port onto a new system because I already bought it on a different system"
They don't just click a magic button and the wii u games work on switch. It takes real work to get everything ported and working on the switch.
On top of that the Deluxe ports often include additional new content which also took work, on top of containing all the dlc the wii u had.
Oh and those titles are now portable, unlike wii u.
The "I already bought it on wii u" excuse is poor imo.

True. No one forced people to get the WiiU ports. If you're happy with your WiiU version, why get it on the Switch? It is for those who wants to double dip or just were not able to play it before.

Thank you for the explanation man. So broadly speaking the "sysNAND" is what hacks the system allowing for cfw, and then the "emuNAND" is what dechiphers the new keys right? And we´ll have to load a new emuNAND with each new nintendo update similarly as how the RGH worked on xbox 360?

Sysnand is the switch internal memory. Emunand (emulated nand) means that the switch os is run from sd card instead of system nand. Emunand would work something like this:
1. You boot the system and it boots sysnand
2. You load an exploit, probably by opening web browser.
3. The exploit loads emunand which has cfw (Atmosphere) installed

does anybody here still buy 3ds games? piracy didn't kill 3ds, not because of our benevolence, but because it is still the only console on the market that kids can drop. parents keep it afloat, not us. piracy undeniably hurts sales, but there are other factors for sure.
I do! I waiting for Detective Pikachu!

Thanks to the Github repo we also know that TuxSH (Luma3DS father) is contributing to the project.
Can't wait to see the first previews !

Anybody know what the format of installed titles on Switch is (wii = wad, 3DS = cia, Wii U = wup folder with .app and .h3)?
