Hi. I followed this guide to update my existing installation of a9lh to b9s and, to my understanding, everything went completely well. I booted my 3ds, played some games, installed some new CIAs, turned it off, turned it on, I had no issues with it whatsoever. Earlier today I played a VC game and left my 3DS on sleep mode and when I came back to it, I was greeted by a black screen. I tried turning it off and on but the black screen persisted. Here's the specifics:

Model: o3DS which I believe was on the latest update (can't confirm though, for obvious reasons)
Softmod: I installed boot9strap 1.3 + Luma3DS 9.0
Godmode9 and the Luma settings menu both still work.

I've read this troubleshooting guide and it seems to suggest going into recovery mode and updating from there which I find a bit suspect. Is that really safe?

I have tried the other methods included in the troubleshooting guide including booting without an SD card and Cartridge, and deleting the home menu's extdata with no success. I did not try doing CTRTransfer as I don't understand what it is and how it could possibly affect my system and/or how it would help to rescue it from a black screen. Would it be safe to use?

I also still have the sysnand backup made after installing b9s.

Any ideas on what's the best course of action here? I feel like whatever I choose I'll only get one shot and that's a bit scary. Also, any ideas on what could have caused the black screen in the first place? I find it odd how seemingly spontaneous it was. Last thing I remember doing was trying to download an update for a game from the home menu that turned out to be too large for the SD card. Could that be related?

Try to reinstall Luma3DS.
Just copy a new clean "boot.firm" of Luma3DS 9.0 to the root of your SD card and replace everything.
Doing a CTRTransfer isn't the recomended thing right now, so lets first try other things.
Let's hope reinstalling Luma3DS solves the problem.

I think maybe removing the luma config file may help aswell.

What do you mean by "replace everything"? Is there anything else I need to replace besides the boot.firm file? I just tried that and it didn't work. Tried the Luma 8.1 version too but that didn't work either.

No luck deleting the config.bin file in the luma folder. :(

Since godmode9 is still working, you might as well try to restore an older working sysnand(if you have one). If not, back up your sysnand now(even though it currently has black screen issue but you still at least can get to luma config and godmode9 so it's quite safe) and do the ctr transfer. I did it myself when I downgraded my 11.6 sysnand in order to be able to create 11.2 emunand to be able to use gateway again. Ctr is quite safe if you simply follow the guide.

So let me get this straight. You went to the one site that everyone always recommends to troubleshoot your issue, but didn't follow through with the instructions because you thought they were suspect? Are you kidding me right now? I know this is mean, but do what the darn thing says to do. Then reply back if it fails.

Who cares if you find it suspect? You clearly have little to no understanding of what you're doing, or what is going on. Follow the guide. It's there for a reason, and we all refer to it for a reason. Then if it fails, reply back. If it fixes your issue, reply back with an apology.

@miss_nakano, did you ever fixed your black screen of death?

Any ideas on what's the best course of action here?
I've been told I'm redundant in saying this: Have you tried removing your battery and sd card?

I have fixed it when I had it before by either deleting luma config and putting back boot.firm but it does not seems to work in his case. Maybe something is wrong with his sysnand.

Crap. I had you mistaken for a different user having recent BSoD. I was going off of memory by your avatar. You're from the thread with that guy asking about hand grips. Nevermind! Disregard. :P

No. Deleting boot.firm without replacing it isn't a solution to fix a black screen.

Yeah, that was the first thing I tried as I had a similar issue back when I first installed an my emuNAND back in the dark ages of RXTools

Okay, smart guy. Good luck fixing your 3DS. :teach:

For the record that was a mistake when trying to copy paste the quoted reply, I already had text in my clipboard and everything went wrong and hit reply early. Sorry, and thanks again.
