Hi, I'm no stranger to hacking my Nintendo systems, I have a hack Wii and a New 3DS XL with CFW, I just picked up a Wii u on eBay, half the reason I got it is for when I move away I want to be able to play games with my friend. So naturally, I'd be concerned about it getting banned or getting bricked. How safe is it to hack a Wii u and maaaaaybe get free games on it?

Thanks!

It is completely safe as long as you don't cheat online or get cbhc (the best cfw / exploit) and delete the hacked game from your wii u (which i think is impossible if you use cbhc cfw since it disables the user from doing this).

and if I did use "cbhc" how bad is the risk on bricking my system?

I personally didn't use it(I used normal haxi not cold boot haxi) and sold my wiiu a month ago but as long as you follow everything in this guide you should be fine https://wiiu.guide/.
Do not follow Wii U Guide it's horribly written. Instead use Kafluke's Noob Guide

wiiu.guide is not written by the same person and is ages outdated. Use @Kafluke's guide
The difference is the noob guide started by me has become a gbatemp community guide. I make minor edits but the information is contributed by many users and updated all the time from experienced users. It's not really my guide at all

I can answer your questions.
Q. "How safe is it to hack a Wii u?"
A. It is very safe. Just make sure you are running either Wii U v5.5.1 or 5.5.2 There is a very small risk of bricking.
Q. "...maaaaaybe get free games on it?"
A. You can do this altough there are things to consider
  1. PIRACY
  2. You manually install the games (it's just like installing .wad files on the wii)
  3. You want to use a tool called Wii U Usb Helper and google the title keys (I'm not allowed to give you a link)
If you want a guide I recommend wiiu.guide

I used your guide to install CBHC and I enjoyed how detailed it was compared to the other guide. I know in the 3DS scene a similar guide is praised as the holy grail, but it doesn't do a very good job of explaining why your doing what your told either and has you blindly copying files and making modifications without explanation. However, the 3DS scene doesn't really have a guide like Kafluke's anymore. It's all about themes, cheats, and piracy.

Edit: I should also add that the 3DS is better understood by developers and guide writers. As such, a detailed guide isn't necessary for most users. I'm not calling the guide bad, I just wish it explained a bit more. If it did, the forums wouldn't be spammed with "Help with NTRBoot" threads.

another thing I thought of, "title keys" I found a good website, I'm sure you know the one. and I was thinking, "what if somehow this title key is invalid?" would I get banned for using it? how do I know which key is real?

It's completely safe to hack. Just don't cheat online, because not only is that a dick move, you'll probably get caught.
