I have been out of the loop from the flashcart scene for a long time. The last flashcart I bought was a Gateway and it looks like they are dead or inactive. I've read that I can't update to the latest Emunand else it would brick it. Now I know I can install CFW but I would rather avoid that. It's there an alternative flashcart working atm that supports the latest Nintendo software and if so which is it? I don't mind spending on a new cart as long as it gets the job done. Thank you and sorry if my question upsets a few people.

You can use a Sky3DS, but you'll be limited to cartridge releases, no eShop games or modded games. You'll also be banned from online if you use it to play online and don't have a PowerSaves and original game to extract the header from and install on the cart. Plus, they cost like $75-$100 (then add like $20-$30 for the PowerSaves and original game.).

CFW is incredibly easy to install, it can and has been done by 12 year olds without English as a main language. Speedrun installs are under three minutes. It is impossible to brick, even if you completely disregard the instructions. If you use the ntrboot method you can just start again if you mess up and if you use SoundHax and "brick" or accidentally update you only need buy a ntrboot capable flashcart and do that method instead.

Well eshop games isn't a really big deal for me. I mean I remember installing a couple .cia eshop games back then on emunand so it's that not possible with Sky3DS? As for being banned Online, I remember injecting my games with a private header back when I was using Gateway so it shouldn't be a problem right?

I don't mind installing CFW but if I can use a flashcart then I would rather avoid it. I do appreciate you telling me the advantage and non risk though.

Sorry but I just stumble across this video. I'm not sure if it's real or fake but apparently, it is possible to update to the latest version on Emunand.

Can anyone confirm this?

Sky3ds+ almost always comes with skydock for free, so no powersaves requied.
Also you can always resell the game after you dumped it, just buy one that has almost no online interaction.

That is only if you're using RXTools which only works on a sysNAND lower than >10.7.... So that's absolutely useless these days as not one person I know of is on that low of firmware OR are using RXTools since it died on 11.3 permanently. There is a way to use it with an 11.2 emuNAND while running B9S and Luma but it's more trouble than it's worth IMO.

EDIT: Not to mention the YouTuber didn't even add a disclaimer that it was for RXTools, that your system needs to be below 11.3, r that you can remove your CFW/Softbrick your console when trying to boot it from sysNAND on 11.6.... The comments section is hilarious.

thats bad advice if the system is on and the system is connected to the internet (not the game but the system) with the game inserted at the same time you are using the header and decide to go online then you can expect a ban . . . just buy a really cheap game (i got duck dynasty for $2 usd from bestbuy) and keep (or destroy) the game

There's no good reason to buy a Sky3DS anymore.
there is still one reason a sky or gateway could be valid in my eyes and that is to bypass the title limit on a n3dsxl (because it can be a pain to get the rear panel off in order to swap out sd cards)

In that rare edge case, I feel like an EmuNAND accomplishes the same thing without costing $60-$80.

except i got a sky super-cheep when everyone was in anticipation of the stargate (that never came) . . . but (in general) i agree . . . personally i removed the screws from my rear panel so its no issue for me to access the sd

Still i would recommend installing cfw, i have a sky3ds+ , and i must say it has its pros: easy to use, 99.9% ban free ( if you are using your header), additional storage for games, and cons: no rom hacks, no eshop exclusives, and the huuge disadvantage is that your battery will get sucked dry in 3 days from full charge... on cfw its like a week or more for my n3ds xl

You can only install cia games and have an emuNAND if you're running CFW of some kind. Sky3DS just emulates cartridges so you can't install anything and it doesn't let you have an emuNAND (apart from if you install CFW as well).
