RULES and info:
These are done in the same fashion as KYT. The public asks the questions, the questioned answers.
You may ask questions about the game, the persons experiences with the game, and generally topics relating to said game.
Interviews last 3 days.
NO HENTAI games.
NO QUICK TEMPLATES (I see any and you're kicked).
And lastly NO HATERS.

and without further ado, ask away. :grog:

I had forgotten about this completely.

I was working on a project a while back to make the game more like an actual metroid game (removing dialogue/changing subtitles)...but a few other team beat me to the punch. Other M (redone) is one, and there's another one or two out there. I might revisit it later and do it how I envisioned, but these aren't bad starts.

So now you're here:

What is your opinion about the game? Is it good or bad as it currently is?
Would you like a Switch remake?
Would you even like a sequel of this game?
Can I use missiles right now?

Is this the best soap opera you've seen so far? (probably not)
What would you change in this game?
Do you think this could have been worse/better than it already is?
Did you complete the main story?
WHY CAN'T I MOVE IN FIRST PERSON?

It's a weird game, that does its best with the self-imposed "wii-mote only" control scheme. I think they were going for simplicity, but didn't quite get the flow right. Switching is awkward, especially in high-stress scenarios, but it's still fun. As a Metroid game though, much like federation force, it feels pretty hollow. The feeling of exploration is minimized because you're micro-managed. The reward of exploration through discovered treasures is taken away for the most part. And the plot is more headache inducing than really bad scifi. Rewrite the plot, polish the gameplay a lot, and let the player's exploration have function and reward, and I'll be able to call it a good game :3

Would you like a Switch remake?

I think I'd prefer the prime games, but I suppose I wouldn't mind overly much for it to be on the Switch. The gameplay was fun, if a bit wonky. I would mainly worry it wouldn't sell well and influence nintendo's perception of the desire for metroid games on the switch.

Would you even like a sequel of this game?
A remake that doesn't suck would be better :P They had a neat idea, there's just a lot of room for improvement. Even the plot could be salvaged if most of it was re-written. But as far as story-wise, I fear the current game becoming canon over prime. Its canon is in conflict with Prime's canon, so with prime 4 coming I'm hoping that issue will be addressed at some point in the future.

Can I use missiles right now?
Nah, I like watching you suffer muwahahaha

Why do people still want more metroid games after this one?

Okay...a more serious question: how does this game relates to the prime trilogy? Is this a straight sequel to the last one, or is there some alternative universe thing going on?

(I tried getting into this, but even before getting into controversial territory, I was assumed to know what everyone was talking about)

Nah. I do love "Jane the Virgin" though. That's soap opera done right. Other M is done wrong XD

What would you change in this game?
Three main things:
-The plot, especially the Adam thing
-polishing the mechanisms, like switching perspective
-being able to backtrack and a sense of discovery/reward

Do you think this could have been worse/better than it already is?

-It could have been a lot worse, but it's certainly not good. If the plot wasn't annoying, it could have been B-movie schlock. Which still wouldn't make it a good metroid game, but it wouldn't be annoying at that point.

Did you complete the main story?
-I did. I went for 100% too.

WHY CAN'T I MOVE IN FIRST PERSON?
-SORRY LADY I CAN'T ALLOW THAT

Some weird alternative universe thing. It's suppose to be a direct sequel to Super Metroid, but a lot of its plot requires things from Prime to have not happened. Things like "this is my first joint mission since graduating" kind of thing, etc. In order for the whole "zomg adam-daddy" thing to work, they had to ignore samus's relationship to the federation in prime. It's quite annoying.

They want more because they didn't get a proper one with this release :P

i wish a port on 3DS
that'd be neat. i wonder how they'd work the first person perspective. tap the bottom screen to switch to stylus/first person mode? totally doable.

i mean, i doubt it'll happen, but the game won't be any worse off if it's ported to the 3ds.

I could totally see a first person mode using the gyroscopy function of the console, similar to the way you play Face Raiders.

I could see that...though it's always felt a bit off. I'd find it frustrating I couldn't react instantaneously like I'm wanting it to. Though if it works more like aiming bows in those zelda 3ds games, I can see that more, though it'd still have the inherent Other M problem.

The problem is one of orientation. There's a bit of a delay between the switch of perspectives and your ability to react. Your brain has to reorient itself to where you are, and where your "aim" is. It's hard to plan ahead the next few seconds if you're uncertain where you're located and where your aim is going to be...if that makes sense. Always made boss battles in Other M a lot harder for me than they should have been, as I tend to play a few seconds ahead of where I currently am.

When you pull out a bow and arrow in the zelda games, there's also this delay of orientation, but usually the designers give you a few seconds to collect yourself and aim..usually. And given the 3d nature of the game, you generally have a better mental concept of what's happening around you. This helps your brain pick up quicker when the perspectives switch. the...well, other M feels like a 2.5d in a 3d world most of the time, and the camera gives your brain less awareness of the environment. It takes longer for it to catch on to the switch of perspectives.

In zelda, the designers were aware of this need to reorient yourself. Other M I'm not so sure. In Other M, the aim isn't automatically at the center of the screen; it's wherever your wiimote is pointed. You can accommodate to a point, but it is an increased obstacle to overcome. The fact they didn't add any buffer between switching perspectives has always struck me as a really weird/bad decision. You can accommodate and "git gud", as well as become familiar with the environment from 1st person over time and effort...but it's trickier than most FPS/perspective switching, and you can only "git gud" up to a point. There's always this...blind spot in Other M, and it's weird.

Sorry I'm ranting now XD
