I've been thinking for awhile now and since I need more vram and possibly a newer psu, I was wondering if I should go for the rx 580 it's being sold for $350 8gb along with a newer psu corsair CX 650w or TX 850w I dunno really and need some advice because the games I am playing now are hitting the 3gb limit and before you ask it's because at that time, back in march it was on sale $100 less than the 6gb one.

No. I have used both the 1060 6GB and the 580 8GB. The 1060 is a far better choice, especially for an intel build. Lets just say my 4790K with my 1060 beats the crap out of the 580 by about 20 FPS while both over clocked and at stock speeds. If I were you, I would save up for either a 6GB 1060 or a 1070.

Yeah but my budget is $400 and also 1080/60 not 4k or anything I would be doing with this.
the 1060 6GB should be perfect for you then. If you're lucky, you can snag one for $250-$300 with current price gouging.

I could offset the price by $100 by selling my current 1060 3gb but I don't want to wait long for the 6gb one.

odds that the problem is actually the 3gb limit and not just the card in general are pretty low tbh. wont see major performance boasts between 1060 and 580 if any depending on the game. dont waste your money, only upgrade your gpu with something at least 30% faster, otherwise your just wasting money. 1060 3gb is fine for 1080p gaming, adust your settings if your having problems.

If only a modded skyrim would be that nice or fallout 4 with its large shadow textures. Even Doom 4 hates my 1060 nearly maxes the vram. Why is there a 3gb 1060 nvdia y u do this
