that's a shame if they disabled 3rd party chargers...
understandable in a way if some of these chargers can be dangerous, but at least it could give a warning and still let us use it.

um just unplug the charger and take it with you?
None of this is helpful.

TC, I haven't heard anything about this in relation to the new firmware. In what way is it not working? Will the charging icon not appear on your Switch when it's plugged in? Does it appear, but not charge the battery? Have you tested the charger on another device to make sure it's working?

I haven't tried with a "real" power supply, but charging from a USB powerbank works fine. What worried me at first was that your adapter is rated for 20V, which I think is too much for the switch ([email protected]), but maybe the USB PD standard takes care of that?

USB PD starts up at 5V & 2A and negotiates with the device that is to be charged about what levels it can be charged at. Provided that both the Dell charger and the Switch follows the USB PD-standards this should be a complete non-issue.

My Apple 12W USB adapter (and my other 3rd party adapters) still work with the USB cable included with the Pro Controller. I don't know if it's the charger and/or the cable.

They didn't, or at least not all of them. I carry a Samsubg Micro B > USB C adapter (from the GearVR with my Switch and its charged fine so far

"official nintendo chargers for the low of 15 bucks"
"make some bullshit reason like the switch can be damaged by shit chargers, even thought it uses a normal usb port and should comply with usb"
profits increase

seriously thought.. this is all a mess, in the old days the different devices requires different chargers and i do understand the reasons.. they used different voltages and stuff
then usb turned out to be the portable charging standard of choice
nintendo only uses usb because they bought off the tablets of nvidea and didn't want to put a proprietary port...
but now they found another way of making the charging proprietary..

There isn't any indication that this is caused by Nintendo unless lots of people come forward with the same kind of issue. It might very well just be the charger used malfunctioning.

Way to go from 0-10 on the rage scale with zero supporting evidence based off a single random post on a messageboard.

After a reboot, and some other charges with the original chargers, everything seems to be working again.
but now i have the fault battery indicator drain that goes from 100 to 1% in about 30 minutes but will stay on until i put it to sleep which then it need to be plugged in to turn back on. any ideas on that?

I've brought many handhelds to my family's cabin over the years and I charge them with car chargers on a 12v solar powered battery bank. For some reason my Vita won't charge there and I suspect it's because the battery bank won't output enough power to initiate the charge in the first place. I believe the Vita requires 2.5amp. I was therefore very pleasantly surprised that my Switch would charge even faster than I burned the battery (Snake Pass, Not Zelda but it's still a 3d title I guess). I always come prepared and I brought both the Hori charger and a normal USB cable and both worked.
