I had another thread on here about this, but it got moved or deleted somehow? Anyway, I am thinking about picking up Ever Oasis when it comes out, but am concerned about firmware checks. My N3DS has A9LH and Luma installed on it, and I also use Gateway. In the other thread, someone said to convert game to cia? Do cia format games bypass firmware checks or anything? My N3DS is on FW 11.2. Thoughts and help greatly appreciated :)

iirc, gateway bypasses updates. u can force an update by holding I think up on the dpad as the game is booting. it's been a long time though, but that's what I remember. I did it a long time ago. I hope that's helpful.

Thanks for the info. Someone in previous thread said to just convert game to cia and everything good to go? If I need to, how do I convert a game cartridge to cia and what do I use? Thoughts and help appreciated :)

u can rip the game with gateway, then use decrypt 9 and simple cia convertor to create a cia of the game. there may be an easier way, but that's what I did with all my games.

Thanks so much! 2 quick questions though:

- How do I boot into the Gateway Menu, menu where I rip the game? My N3DS has A9LH and Luma.
- Where can I find "Simple CIA Converter"? Is there a link to that?

Help appreciated :)

I think booting into the gateway menu is by holding L when the dragon logo appears. simple cia convertor can be found here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-3ds-simple-cia-converter.384559/ first, u'll create an ncch of the game on the pc, then u'll create xorpads using decrypt 9 based on the ncch (forgot where the option is, but u'll find it), lastly, u'll use the xorpads and the .3ds game to create a cia. it sounds confusing, but it's pretty easy. u can even do this with multiple games at one time which is what I did. I still have the xorpads on my sd card actually. lol

Thanks again! Once I create the ncch, where do I put it when I run decrypt9 to create the xorpads?

that I don't know. the xorpads r like parts of the game such as the digital manual. it may not create xorpads responsible for game updates which I'm assuming is a separate partition on the cart, so having a cia of the game may be correct. I think this is y cia games r usually smaller than their .3ds counterparts - xorpads. I could be wrong, but that's my understanding of the process.

Unless the game requires something in the updated FIRMs.....

that's true, but I'm assuming the new firmware was for ap only. I watched part of the 3c conference regarding sighax, and derrek mentioned that the last eight, yes eight, firmware updates have been nothing but for ap. ur most likely safe from having to update.

I hope u don't either. I don't think gateway can block cart updates, so u'll probably have to dump the game. that is according to its chart and if I'm understanding it correctly.

I'm on the latest firmware with b9s as I ditched gateway a while back. I still own the cart though. :)

I believe I heard that the new fire emblem game had an update for 11.3-0-36. I'm not sure if that's the game or the update, both? your game will most likely have an update on it. try what I suggested with dumping the game. it should work.

see if that game, as a .3ds from that iso site, works for u. the update should block unless the sdk contains more than ap measures. I doubt it does tbh. from what I've seen, Nintendo hasn't offered anything new with version 11, just blocking exploits.

Good news, so far at least:

I tried Fire Emblem Echoes on my Gateway and it worked. It seems like Gateway bypassed the required firmware? On 3dsdb, it says Firmware is 11.3.0 for that game, and my N3DS is on SysNAND 11.2. Thoughts on this appreciated :)
