I'm an idiot and bricked my n3ds. I was trying to update my B9S to 1.2 from 1.0 and Luma to 8.0 from 7.1 and after placing the boot.firm on the SYSNAND CTRNAND. I was following the guide but when it came to the part when it said the Luma update should come up it didn't so I proceeded with the next part with GODMODE9. I reset the 3DS and now the blue light blinks and turns off...

Anything I can do or is hardmod the only way? Or does that not work and I am SOL and just need to transfer to another 3DS my NNID?

Did you placed the boot.firm into your 3DS's SD card root?
Also, you don't update the boot9strap or Luma by just simply copying the .firm file into the sysNAND.
You follow this

Was following the guide and all the files were in the right place, etc...until it wasn't going as planned.

Got up to
'
Section III - Updating Luma3DS
  1. Insert your SD card into your computer
  2. Delete the existing boot.firm from the root of your SD card
  3. Copy boot.firm from the Luma3DS .7z to the root of your SD card
  4. Reinsert your SD card into your device
Section IV - Configuring Luma3DS
  1. Your device should have rebooted into the Luma3DS configuration menu
  2. Use the (A) button and the D-Pad to turn on the following:
    • “Show NAND or user string in System Settings”
  3. Press (Start) to save and reboot'
However Section IV never ended up happening. (It would just load back to the homescreen on my 3DS Sysnand).
So I continued and did this section.

Section V - CTRNAND Luma3DS
  1. Reboot holding (Start) during boot to launch the Luma3DS chainloader menu
  2. Launch GodMode9 by pressing (A)
  3. Navigate to [0:] SDCARD -> luma -> payloads
  4. Press (X) on SafeB9SInstaller.firm to delete it
  5. Press (A) to confirm
  6. Press (B) to return to [0:] SDCARD
  7. Press (Y) on boot.firm to copy it
  8. Press (B) to return to the main menu
  9. Navigate to [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND
  10. Press (Y) to paste a copy of boot.firm
  11. Select “Copy path(s)”
  12. Press (A) to unlock SysNAND (lvl1) writing, then input the key combo given
and now I am in the predicament I am currently sitting in...

sigh...at least I have a spare 3DS to use and only will just lose my mii plaza stuff...of course will have to wait a week to transfer back my nnid (just system transferred) but whatever.

Either way you're not bricked, can you post a picture of your 3DS SD card files? Also, double check if you have arm9loaderhax.bin inside the CTRNAND.
If you do, delete it.

I am unable to get to my N3DS CTRNAND? Unless there is a way to view on the PC. I cant get the bootloader to show at all.

All I touched on the CTRNAND was overwriting the boot.firm that is on the CTRNAND with the one from the sd.

But anyways here's a snapshot of my SD card.

delete config.bin inside the luma folder, after that pop in your sd card inside your 3DS and boot the console while holding SELECT.

Even booting while holding START?

start, select, x, y, etc...etc...

nothing

Guess I should add that I didn't end up getting past

  1. Press (Y) to paste a copy of boot.firm
  2. Select “Copy path(s)”
  3. Press (A) to unlock SysNAND (lvl1) writing, then input the key combo given
So none of the following steps were followed.

Do you have any payloads inside your luma folder?
Did you try to boot the 3DS without an SD card? Did you try booting the 3DS without an SD card while holding SELECT?

there are a couple like Godmode9, Decrypt, and the B9SInstaller (didn't yet delete it).

The system used to work without the sd card installed (following the guide from when I first updated from AL9H to B9S. I was able to load Luma 7.1 boot.firm without the sd card installed.

Guessing because I didn't end up transferring over the luma folder during the update process to the CTRNAND->rw it bricked the system.

Can you provide me with a screenshot of your payloads?

Huh, guess Luma 8.0 its having its issues.
First time I've seen something like this, updating B9S from 1.0 to 1.2+ and Luma from 7.1 to 8.0 was a breeze to me.
Thanks @zoogie I was having a tough time figuring out.

Looks like the b9strap 1.0 -> 1.2 update didn't go through.

Thanks.

It's weird though because it said everything was a success during the update to 1.2

guess I will try again.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Well figured out my issue. It wasn't on Luma's or B9S's part. All on me.

For some reason the updated B9SInstaller didn't transfer over...and I transferred over the 1.0 version...

Feel like such an idiot right now...is there a way to delete this thread? lol. Guess I will live in my shame. That's what I get for trying to concentrate late at night. haha
