Currently have two games on my HDD that I play. I'll be playing the game and it will loose sound and then freeze. I do not have an actual wii u disk to try out to make its not the system, but I was hoping someone on here would have an idea. I have the HDD sleep mode disabled while the system is on and I saw improvement for awhile, but still having issues.

Could the system be going bad? I bought it off a lady on craigslist, but not sure how much they used it.

So are the games on the internal storage or an external harddrive? Have you tried installing the games to internal storage?

Do you have an external power source for your external harddrive? It needs either an external power source or a y-cable.

They are on the external and no I have not tried internal. No it doesnt have an external power or y-cable. I can try a y-cable, but not seeing why one is needed when this HDD only requires the cable. Are the Ports not providing enough voltage?

Yes, the wiiu ports are underpowered, and don't provide enough voltage. That's why you either need a y cable or an external power source.

Try the y cable if you have one. The easiest thing to do is just to install the game to the internal storage though.

So just move game from external to internal whenever I want to play it?

Yeah, that works. Depending on what game you want to play you could fit a couple on the internal storage at a time.

Thumb drives don't need a ton of power, so those don't need a y cable if you have a few of those lying around - sd cards inserted into sd card adaptors work as well.
