So I've got a New 2DS LL now (photos here).

However, I've noticed that this New 2DS LL came with a firmware version that's currently not available yet.
Although the firmware is still part of the 11.x series, it's still one newer than 11.4.
I can't verify which one exactly, but Dev Menu shows 0.25.18.
Firmware 11.4 is 0.25.5, while 11.3 is 0.25.4, and so on.

While I didn't try to install an CFW on it yet, neither I tried any other hacking on it, I did try to run an older version of SystemUpdater (which should usually downgrade the firmware), but it gave me an error while trying to launch it.
This serves as a hint to the inability to downgrade the firmware.

I hope this helps to those of you who want to get this device at launch.
I wouldn't say to not buy it at all (it really is a lovely device), I do advise the average Homebrew/CFW user to wait a bit longer.

What version number does it show in the System Settings? I'm curious.
As I already said, there's no way to verify that, because developer units always show "Ver. 0.0.0-0", no matter the firmware version installed.

Woah, the New2DS was released already?
Only to developers basically.
I'm not one of them, but I've got a couple of contacts who are.

Oh, ok, that's really cool. I wonder when you try to hack it, will the steps from 3ds.guide or dev.3ds.guide

I could give it a try later today (I'm at work right now).
Although it'll be the first time I'd actually follow this guide on any 3DS (retail or debug) I own at all, so perhaps I'll do something wrong.

Nah, the guide is easy to follow, but before you do the dev guide, make sure you have a DS mode flashcart

I quickly reviewed the "Get Started" page now, and there's already 1 problem here.
The guide wants me to install the 0.25.5 firmware, while I already mentioned in the TS it didn't work.
Each time I try to run that SystemUpdater (or an older one, if you want me to add that), I get a fatal error (RSL = 0xD900CC0C).

Hmm, we need to get research done on the New2DS ASAP, you think you're capable is poking around?

Unfortunetely, no.
I'm a well known MKDS and MK7 ROM Hacker (even though the amount of hacks I've ever created is really low, and I always relied on other people), which is much easier than hacking an actual system.

Does there look to be any way to open the console?,(screws under bumpers/flaps, click tabs?)
Or does it look as if it would be concealed?

Maybe it has to do with the fact that it's 2D only? With the 3DSes there's a part in the initial setup where you have to turn the 3D slider all the way up otherwise you can't continue, but since the 2DSes are only 2D, they remove that part from the setup, and maybe that not being in the setup affects the version number somehow?
I'm just grasping at straws lol
