It may be out of scope for this project but I wonder if it would be a good idea to be able to setup a personal cdn and host our own backed up games. At that point it would pretty much be hosting the prebuilt cia but eventually Nintendo is going to drop support for the 3ds eshop and it would be nice to still be able to use an app with a nice ui. It could also be accomplished by just a hosted website that lists all the games with info and a qr that links to where the cia is stored and just use FBI to install them.
But how would we keep nintendo from suing for copyright?

It would be a self hosted thing.
So you're saying it would get the games from the eshop and the title keys? I'm no lawyer, but something about that seems like something Nintendo could actually take action against. The server would have copyrighted material on it.

i am using freeshop 2.2 sice yesterday when i installed cfw and it is giving me no issues , should i update to the latest build and what is extra in 3.0

No. You would host your own backed up files somewhere and run a server that hosts the files. It would be a private thing for personal use. At this point it's way off topic though.

That would still be illegal

It would be the same as running a personal music server that let's you stream your music from anywhere. They're your backups and as long as you are using it for personal use, it should fall under the fair use laws.

I don't see the point. So you want everyone to keep a copy of their games that they already have on their system?

Again. Off topic but yes. Eventually you won't be able to download content from Nintendo servers. It would be nice to be able to browse your own backed up games with a nice interface from your device when it came to that. It would also allow for your cart backups for games which are not on the eshop.

Um, no, games always stay on nintendo's servers. And if you want to make backups, use FBI to install your backups

Backups should be stored in CIA format, not the multi-part method the eShop CDN uses.
Carts do not contain the same data structure as eShop content, and would never be compatible with the way FreeShop installs games. Even if OP were to add the ability to specify a custom server.

If (And that's a big IF) OP were to add the functionality to specify a custom CDN, instead of relying on Nintendo's, you would need to re-create the exact same directory structure, with all of the same files, for it to work. It would also never allow custom folder structures or CIA/3ds files.

When Nintendo ditches the eShop CDN for 3DS (And you're looking at 10+ years from now, I'm guessing) someone will probably look into that, but more than likely you'll just get a prettier CIA manager. There's zero reason to implement anything like that at this point in time.

Exactly what I think.

But this is an eshop clone, use FBI to install from titleDB
Exactly, TitleDB would be perfect for an eshop clone. Plus it's faster and more nice looking. FBI is just one list and you have to tap it just to look at the icon.

Another thing is that if this tool is not supposed to be used for piracy, having TitleDB could show that.

But does the regular eshop have titleDB? No, if it includes titleDB, it's not a clone

Does the regular eshop have custom music? Theming? Download apps from Nintendo's servers without paying a cent? No. But guess what? This does.

I think when they mean clone, they mean an alternative, or else freeShop would be very different.

But those are cosmetic stuff, things clones have, adding whole new features is diffrent
