So a few weeks ago I tried to install a legit CIA through soundhax on to my 3ds which had an 11.3 firmware. Of course this didn't work because there wasn't an FBI that was compatible with the 11.3 firmware. I came here to confirm this and asked for alternatives, one alternative was to get an 11.2 2ds or 3ds and install a CFW on it since there was no CFW for 11.3.

Today I checked 3ds guide and there seems to be a way to install CFW on 11.3 but I'm having a hard time believing it. So before I attempt to go through with the CFW installation can someone confirm that CFW works on 11.3 and that there is an arm9loaderhax compatible with 11.3? Thanks in advance.

All CFWs will work on 11.3+, I can confirm because I was requested to test them as they were being released.
And the guide does indeed now work on getting you setup with a CFW on 11.3. Just make sure you don't update to 11.4, until you get the latest version of whatever CFW you choose to use

If it's from the guide, it's good.

Thank you very much, I'm real excited to install the CFW. I have another question though, if I back up my 3ds does that restore it back to normal if it gets bricked? Or is there a point during the installation where if it bricks its irreversible?

The tools in the guide will automatically backup your NAND and you can safely restore that backup with hourglass9 or decrypt9 (provided in the guide) (with decrypt9, make sure you use the option to keep A9LH)
Your system will only brick if you restore someone else's NAND.

Alright thanks again. The risk for bricking my device is much smaller than I thought then. Again thank you very much.

Every hack to this level has an inherent risk of bricking, but these tools have been tested and honed to the point where the risk is extremely small. My suggestion to make that risk smaller is to read ahead in the guide. Study it to make sure you are prepared for anything to come. All common issues are listed and their troubleshooting fixes are listed as well.

Yup, I'm doing that right now since I'm not home and can't install it atm. It all seems very straightforward and simple enough. I'm going to try it on a cheap 2ds I have then go ahead and do it on my n3ds when I feel comfortable with the whole CFW thing. Thanks again for the feedback, have a nice day.

Alright I'm just starting to wrap up the whole process and things have been going smoothly. Now I noticed that I keep getting prompted to update my 2ds to 11.4, which I'm not going to do. But hypothetically, if I accidentally do update it with the CFW from 11.3, what could happen?

It's fine to update. The only problem is homebrew might not work so well.but you very rarely need the homebrew launcher, nearly everything has an installable cia which will still work perfectly.
You can make a backup of your system now at 11.3, then update, and if there's anything you don't like, you can restore your backup with Hourglass9 and have it all back how it was before you updated.

Okay, sounds good. Thank you.

Okay, so now I have a legit CIA I'd like to install, how do I do that? Hold start when it boots and go to FBI and mount image to drive and then inject it to H&S?

Just have it on your SD card and install it with FBI.

Alright, new problem. I'm trying to launch the homebrew launcher and I keep getting the message "something went wrong".

the guide had you install fbi as a .cia so it should be on your home menu

also

downloading and installing .cia files is time consuming get freeshop and use that to pirate w/no pc needed

No, you should have injected it into your H&S app (Section V of "Installing a9lh" I believe) so you should launch it from the home menu.

I finished the guide but I didn't get the option that say "install all cias" so I had to do them individually and I skipped FBI.cia
. . . never skip steps unless your told its optional . . . assuming thats the only step you skipped you will need to inject fbi again as the guide had you restore h&s then use h&s(fbi) to install fbi.cia
