Thank you for putting a question mark in the title, lol.
I've heard a lot about it in the past few weeks, not sure who but someone is.

MUGEN itself does not have its source code publically available. However, there are some open-source MUGEN clone engines available (Ikemen and InfinityCat are the ones I remember off the top of my head), which is probably as close as you're gonna get, aside from Elecbyte (the MUGEN engine creators) porting it themselves.

I remember looking at the source for Ikemen. I remember it using a combination of C and Lua, so it might be possible to port. However, there are also SSZ files, which I don't really know what to do with, probably due to lack of research.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here successfully built Ikemen from source (on a PC) ?

There's PainTown, which technically has MUGEN in it. I think it's based off the Beta Versions of the game, though. Haven't played MUGEN in a while.

UGH! PAINOTOWN. that sounds so bad. :P

Never heard of it, but i knew from the wiibrew wiki page, that mugen was one of the things to be ported years ago, even streets of rage remake was as well.... all we got was beats of rage which isn't as exciting since it been ported to many things. :ninja:

to set up paintown on your phone you got install the APK Normandy and it automatically creates a folder on your SD card the folder you can't read it how you would on your PC

Typically you're correct, however if memory servers, there was a linux version of this out there....one could build up a barebones linux distro and boot it (we already have more recent versions of linux booting so this might be viable)

Mame is a arcade emulator "M.A.M.E Multi Arcade Machine Emulator. It emulates different arcade boards, much like how retro arch emulates different emulator cores. Is basically a common arcade emulator for arcade games, and is just as difficult to setup like retroarch if not even more difficult. But i i think no one uses mame anymore, finalburn alpha is the popular arcade machine, even used by fight cade. :P
