Hardware Issues when trying to update without a HDD.

Hello, greetings, etc.
I've been trying to use a USB flash drive as a temporary substitute for a HDD, mine got the click of death. Any time I try to sign in to Xbox Live, (profile previously copied to the USB as backup) it tells me to update it, and that if I decline the update, I won't be able to log in. When I accept the update, I get a message that I need at least need 190MB of storage free, but I have 6.6GB free on the flash drive. Can someone help me?

I can't install it because it finds that it doesn't meet that requirement, but the problem is that it does meet that requirement.

Try a different USB drive.
Could be that it just simply under performs.
