Actually I still religiously use it as a dedicated 8/16 bit emulation machine. If you throw in N64 VC and backwards compatibility with the GC it's the ultimate emulation machine.
What makes is so special do you ask me ? The Wii is capable to output 240p RGB signal. If you have a properly connected CRT TV, you can play all those games in their most natural form, 240p !! Even the emulated GBA looks better then I've ever seen. No input lag, no blocky graphics, and a multitude of controllers to enjoy your games in any way you prefer. Mine has the GC controller ports and I''m able to use an Arcade stick with most emulators.
Of course I can do all of those things on a PC, but nowadays is very, very difficult to connect a modern PC to a CRT TV without some expensive converter which by the way, is bound to introduce input lag no matter what.

I'm just so mad at Retroarch Wii for being so broken, always forgetting the settings, crushing, locking up........ Anyway, my Wii is the only retro console still hooked up and regularly used, although most Wii games look way better on Dolphin at 1080p/60fps of course ;).
I'll be playing it for as long as the tube TV will survive !

Some nice homerew emulators, nes gx, snes gx, gba gx, Genesis plus gx (One of the very few emulators capible of playing pier solar 8MB rom file) Some others you may not know about. Beats of Rage emulator. (Hoping for mugen) Not to mention system tools, back up loaders, for both wii and gamecube.

If you mean dead as in no one focused on making more, then perhaps, but not dead as in useless or forgotten. Unless it can all get wii u ports which no one seem to be doing cause Retroarch is still the only emulator. So i'm still using wii homebrew until they get a wii u emulator I want to use on it. Or they make gamepad support on vwii. :P

Yes, but I'm talking about the Wii being able to natively output a pure 240p RGB signal ( the Wii U can't for example ) which is crucial for accurate, input-lag free and as close as the original material as can be.
Most modern devices only output HDMI for example.
That's why my Wii is irreplaceable, and I still use homebrew ( emulators ) on it, and it's nice to see little updates here and there, although if they reached their pick and can't be pushed any further then it's useless to keep on working on them.

But if you didn't grow up with a classic console on a CRT or playing arcade games, then of course it might not seem a big deal to you.
I can emulate an SNES on your average toaster these days, but nothing can come close to playing it on a modded Wii through a CRT TV with the right RGB cables a good CC Pro controllerm, well short on using a real SNES of course ;)

Wii emulated retro console games look great on a crt. Loaded Star ocean on wii and then on a real snes and there is no real noticeable graphical differences. the sound/music has some minor issues on a wii.
Id like to see a flat tv that can display native resolutions like a crt. LCD's screens set resolution is annoying. and that input lag should not exist its 2017. I understand the difference in lcd vs crt tech, I still find it stupid that my tv from 1961 will display any resolution you toss at it with no lag. that analog tho... Seriously a tv from 56 years ago should not have any attribute that can out perform a tv from 2017.....

Pretty sure HDMI doesn't imply input lag. It's entirely possible to have an HDMI display with next to no input lag.

The problem is stupid TV manufacturers who insist on adding all sorts of garbage image processors that bump the lag up to 0.5s or more.

On virtually all "PC" monitors I've used (LCD and CRT), I've noticed barely any input lag. Even on a Dell 1701FP LCD from the early 2000s.

So many weird comments... If the Wii and Wii homebrew is dead why are there so many people posting here every day? And what about the at least monthly updates to loaders and emulators? :P
