Well, I saw @shinyquagsire23's repo and was wondering what it could do. Then I saw some of his posts about being able to at least read from the Gateway SD card from k9lh, but not necessarily more, so that's why I ask.

Would it be possible to redirect all SD read/writes to the Gateway micro SD?

What would be the point? Well, nothing too exciting, but still not so bad:
  • give a use to the Gateway card some people here bought BEFORE free CFWs become an actual thing (so people who come here to say "Gateway is useless, get a free CFW" clearly missed the whole point because that's exactly what I'm saying)
  • allow New 3DS users to have their micro SD card in a slot that isn't behind two screws (I hear "Filezilla" in the background. You mean that thing that requires a WiFi network and that corrupts JKSM saves?)
  • maybe support exFat, depending on how the whole thing works, assuming it even works
  • have something else than dust in the cartridge port (yeah, I'm trying hard to find arguments :P)
Note, I'm not even asking for people to do it, just at least if it's doable.

I'll just throw my input in here, but I've never tried it personally. I'd imagine it's fully possible, you'd just need to hook the SD sector read/write and map it to the gwcard sector read/write. Also would need a hook to actually initialize the card and patches to make sure card state doesn't get screwed up somehow.

The most I've done is hooked it into fatfs for pre-FIRM ARM9 payloads, and it works wonderfully as a recovery mechanism.

I vaguely remember someone doing research on this, I don't remember who it was or if they ever found anything on it though.

Bumping this thread with new ideas lol.
And tagging @Steveice10 and @d0k3 since they are probably people relevant to tag for that matter.

What about adding Gateway's SD support to Decrypt9 (and friends) and FBI (without necessarily redirecting all reads to that SD card, unlike what the first post stated)?

This would allow people to have an "internal SD" with only stuff needed for the 3DS to work (installed games, a9lh files) instead of a lot more stuff (cias, NAND backups, to-be-decrypted .3ds files, etc). And would allow people to have a smaller "internal SD" for faster boot (because 128Go takes 16 seconds, feels like menuhax even on a9lh...). And still the argument where people with N3DSes would be able to easily copy stuff to/from the Gateway SD from/to the PC instead of having to unscrew two screws.
This could benefit to those who plan on buying an EZ Flash Redux too btw, so they don't only buy it for collection purposes or as a way to tell GW that they sux, but they'd really get something useful with that purchase if that card gets FBI/D9 support too.

Now this is something that we could have in the future. The microSD card in the flash card could also be used to store save data binaries as well, not just ROMs (which is emulating in the same way as Card1 based saves), and also allow for ROM files to be writable as well (for Card2 based saves).

then why limit ourselves to gateway cards if you want to access SD through a flashcard wouldn't DS ones work just as well? cheaper too.

The red GW card has a FPGA chip inside and can be reprogrammed. Would be nice if that + some 3ds-side homebrew mojo could make it operate as a regular DS flashcart. Would finally make this now-irrelevant card worth something.
