... is really mediocre. Is the any other way to surf the web? Does something like a homebrew alternative exist? Or is there any other way to add (browsing) software to the PS Vita's "LifeArea" - Surface?

Unfortunately, at this time, there are no homebrew web browsers and AFAIK no one is working on one yet.

I don't believe anyone has made one yet
Homebrew Web browsers dont really seem to be made much anymore. I think the last one I saw that didn't die and actually get a release was for the NDS

I guess with smartphones being much more readily available now, especially to anyone smart enough to even have the necessary skills to even develop this piece of homebrew in the first place. They likely have a dozen devices with better browsers on them already

You could probably pay someone to develop this for you as well for cheapish..but at that point you might as well just get a cheap smartphone/tablet IMO
