If I were to follow the 3ds.guide to install a9lh+Luma what is the next guide to convert .3ds files to .Cia and how to install those. Also how to update them. I've looked into some 3ds to Cia guides but they talk about downgrading to 9.2 or they just don't seem to apply to people who used the 3ds.guide. also they seem outdated.
Can somebody point me in the right direction? I want to have a complete picture of what I'm doing, not just get a9lh+Luma and not know what to do afterwards. I'm on n3dsxl 11.2.0-35U using sky3ds+

Forget about cia. Look for freeshop and you can install games from there. It's actually faster than download cia, transfer to 3ds, then install cia.

what you wanna to do? get free games? get homebrew?

for freegames people had been using freeshop or downlaod the .cia files in that iso forums, download, copy to 3ds, install it with fbi and play
or the simpliest way, install freeshop which is much simplier and easier

for backup your own games you can use the tools like hourglass or decrypt9 (that was provided on the guide)

for homebrew, just get the .cia files or QR codes and use FBI

I have the .3ds files and don't want to download. Which guide should I use to convert and install. Your telling me what to use but I don't know how to use.

we dont' use .3ds files anymore, thoose are for gaybait cards...
you need to either convert to cia, (i don't know how, because i never download a 3ds file)
or get new versions in .cia format already from that iso site, or somewhere else, i can't give you links because it's warez.
or install free shop http://gbatemp.net/threads/wip-freeshop-open-source-eshop-clone.426573/

to install freeshop, you launch FBI (which you got installed from the 3ds.guide) go into the QR code option and scan the code in that website.
then freeshop is installed and the only thing missing is probably add the url with the keys..
freeshop will give yo uthe ability to download them and automatically install on the go, in your DS without needing a computer

If you have CFW you can puut Decrypt9 into your payloads folder, give it a button (eg. X_decrypt9.bin) and then press that button on boot, just like you boot Hourglass and Luma

Requirements
-O3DS/N3DS (9.0 - 9.2 for 3DSX Method)
I fail at step 1
(9.0 - 9.2 for 3DSX Method)

you don't need that firmware. scroll down, follow part 1 AL9H method

edit: to be clear, skip 3DSX method. follow that guide, but skip that 3dsx part.
do part 1, and part 2

Last edited by migles,
Most people decide why they want to hack their console before they do it. If you didn't know what you wanted it for, why did you get it? Also, like @migles said you don't need .3DS files, those are mainly for Gateway/Sky3DS+ and Citra. You can like others suggested use FreeShop to install whatever you want, CIAngel to create installable .cias OR you can download them from warez sites as .cias already. Pick your poison. :D

Following the 3dsguide, you should already have freeshop. I'm sure you still want to use your sky3ds card, but it's not really needed anymore. Freeshop enables you to (if you have internet) download games to your microsd card. You won't get banned from using freeshop. If you are bent on using your flashcart, then threedsisodotcom would be your next stop.
