I have my nephew's 2ds and because he is 6 I can't remove Parental settings fully, which the guide states is something you need to do.

Would it be possible to just disable everything it restricts and continue with the CTR Transfer and downgrade? I have the Parental settings Pin and stuff.

Thanks!

if you don't have the parental code, you can generate a master key here to disable it
https://mkey.salthax.org/

What does this support?
The current list is:
  • Wii 1.0 -> 4.3: all regions (v0)
  • DSi 1.1 -> 1.4.5: all regions (v0)
  • 3DS 1.0.0 -> 6.3.0: all regions (v0)
  • 3DS 7.0.0 -> 7.1.0: all regions (v1)
  • 3DS 7.2.0 -> 11.2.0: all regions (v2)
  • 3DS "8.1.2" (key 13): USA, EUR, JPN (seemingly distributed only with not-for-sale Smash demo-carts?)
  • Wii U 1.0.0 -> 4.1.0: all regions (v0)
  • Wii U 5.0.0 -> 5.5.1: all regions (v2)

Since you have the PIN and stuff, I don't see why you can't just disable the parental controls until you've finished completely "hacking" the system then enabling it back once after you've finished?

Yeah I used that already to change the pin which I now have :)

It's telling me because the user's NNID attached the device is under 13 years old, the parental controls cannot be disabled :S]

Oh r.i.p well I'm not entirely sure on how to bypass that through hacking, but a simple way could be to just unlink the NNID attached to the console. But iirc (and correct me if I'm wrong pls), that can only be done by system transferring to another console or by calling Nintendo's support requesting it to be unlinked (if the console was stolen/lost etc.) Or maybe you could try fully factory resetting the system (if there's nothing to lose from it like save files etc.) since games bought from the eshop are tied to the NNID and can be reinstalled anyways.

Yeah he probably needs his NNID because he also has a Wii U :S

Thanks for the help though!

Unlinking a NNID on a 2DS/3DS system shouldn't affect anything on the Wii U since NNIDs were designed so that they can be linked to a 2/3DS systemand a Wii U system simultaneously but only to 1 of those systems each (since digital games are tied to the NNID, this would prevent people from obtaining "free games by sharing accounts" per se).

I just don't fancy ringing up Nintendo and asking them to unlink a NNID, I'm bad at lying xD

  • You can format the system to remove the Nintendo Network ID without deleting it. Nintendo Network accounts removed in this way will not be deleted from the Wii U (if linked), and can be relinked to the same Nintendo 3DS system again in the future. For information about formatting the system, click here.

You can always do this.

Nice, thanks but what happens to his saves and stuff?

If he doesn't use cartridges to play games, it goes.... "Pooooofff" (it will be deleted).

But you can backup save data...

Backup:
http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/70/~/how-to-back-up-save-data

Restore:
http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/51/~/how-to-restore-save-data

And well the games can be downloaded again in case you bought it from eShop once you put the NNID back. Or just use FreeShop of course :ninja:.

What happens if I system format with the SD card out?

Lol that's what I'm saying. I'm pretty sure you can make backups of your system by simply copying and pasting the contents of its SD Card somewhere in case your console's SD card gets damaged. But I'm not entirely sure if that would work for a system that's been forwarded.

Since you can access homebrew (I assume) you could also try maybe using a specific game's save manger(?) to create backup saves. Idk about other games but Pokémon players use JKSM to create save backups so it can be edited.

The "Save-Data Backup" won't work as it stores the backups on the SD Card and would therefore be wiped as well, afaik.

Yeah i'm not new to this stuff, it's just when I've done my own consoles I didn't care about my saves or games, but this isn't mine and I don't want to upset him with a 2ds with no saves on :D

Thought so :D

But can't he copy those extracted saves to a PC and then reinjeting them back?

That's something I haven't myself tried before so I don't exactly know. But if the location of the backup saves can be determined (which is definitely possible) then I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Homebrew save managers I know for a fact will work 100% if used to make a backup with, copied to PC then injected back again into the game.

For redundancy. I'd use JKSM via homebrew launcher to backup saves.
The follow the guide updo loading decrypt9 and creating a nand.bin backup.
Keep this nand.bin backup and the Nintendo 3DS folder [as well as the jksm saves]

Then reboot, remove nnid or whatever from above

If you want to remove parental control go to system settings => parental control => settings ( or idk what ) => remove all settings ( idk too ) something like that

Seems to an issue with that as the attached nnid has a stated age under 16 [or whatever the restriction is set at]
